Craigslist question

So we listed some stuff on Craigslist on Thursday night and on Friday we had three people interested in the same item.  The first guy had cash in hand so DH replied back to him on Friday, but he hasn't emailed back.  So last DH went to the second person who emailed us about our item but they haven't emailed back either.

Is this normal?  Why would you e-mail some one that your interested and ready to buy then not reply back?  I just really want this item sold because the money would seriously help us right now.

  • Totally normal. I usually give them a full 24 hours before I move on to the next person. I also usually require in the ad that people send me a phone number (or put my number in there) so that we can get things going faster. I personally am super busy and don't have email on my phone, so if people just call or text me it's wayyy easier.

This is what I do as well. I require a number and post a pick-up day and time or deadline. I usually say something like::

For sale: One grumpy father: lifetime of experiences offered freely upon purchase. Original price: Priceless, yours only 50 bucks obo. While I usually respond via e-mail, please include your phone number to assure that you aren't a spammer/scammer. Grumpy father must be picked up by Friday at 5.

  • Yes, unfortunately this is pretty normal for Craig's List. For some reason, people forget their basic manners and email communication etiquette when dealing on that site. I say if you don't hear within 24 hours, move on to the next person. But also be prepared for people sometime not showing up to pick stuff up, etc.
  • That's why I have communication with all of them and tell them others are interested...1st come, 1st served.
