I think I am in major need of a night away, not just going out, coming home to a sleeping boy, but waking up too! Not that I don't love him, but we almost never have anyone take him over night. I think maybe 10 times tops in his 3 years!
So, I want to do either over night 1 or 2 nights (depending on sitter status), somewhere drivable (with in 2-3hrs) of RI that is not too toursity.
I don't want to spend a fortune on a hotel just because it is in "x". I would rather stay somewhere inexpensive, try out some local stuff in that area, nice dinner, maybe some different activities etc.
I figured since so many of you ladies are scattered, have family pretty close by, you may have some options.
I am thinking either late March/Early April so we can get away from this snow and actually see some ground where we go!
THanks!
Re: Non-Touristy Overnight Destinations?
Burlington, VT is nice. It's a little touristy but ski season should be pretty much done.
My neck of the woods in the Berkshires is nice. Tourist season doesn't really start until Memorial Day. Look in Stockbridge or Great Barrington.
Ooo or Northampton. A little off the beaten path. Artsy, nice restaurants, etc.
I'll keep thinking ...
I was just thinking the same thing! We have only been away from the girls hmm about 5 times in 4 1/2 years!
Checking back to see some good places
Once Maddy is weaned from breastfeeding this May/June I am desperate for a night away. Believe it or not, we've never been away from the kids. Ever. For various reasons but we didn't. Individually we have for work trips or a one night trip with our girls/guys. But Ben has never woken up to anyone but us.
I feel bad leaving Maddy at just over a year old, but we are in desperate need of a night to ourselves! Heck we've only had about 3 date nights since Ben was born! I've had a few girls' nights out (99% of them thanks to you ladies!) but that's about it.
Time to put the couplehood part of our life higher on the list this year for sure! So I'm stalking this post for ideas ;-)

I just posted something very similar to this! We are going back and forth when it comes to how much we want to spend so that will decide where we want to go BUT.. one of the places that we have chosen is in N.Adams, MA. Its called Porches Inn.
http://www.porches.com/ (sorry its not clicky).
Prices seem reasonable and the place is super neat and there is a lot to do in the area.
We also stayed up in the White Mountains a few years ago and had a blast.
I love these spots! Northampton is wonderful!!
I'm a big fan of short trips into Manhattan! So much to see and do, and lots of reasonably priced places to eat (lots of expensive places too, but you can ignore them!) and free things to see. Hotels can be outrageously expensive there, but if you check on priceline or hotwire, you can often find something under $150 if you aren't too picky about location.
Parking is expensive too (and driving is insane there), but you can park overnight in New Haven, CT at the train station in a secured parking garage for under $20, and take the commuter rail in (also very cheap-- maybe $15?).
sleepy hollow, new york is lovely but i think it's probably a four hour drive so you'd want to be able to stay 2-3 nights. when we went on halloween in 2009 it felt like a mini-vacation and we didn't even stay overnight. it was rainy but that added to the atmosphere.
@michele: you & jerred could get to sleepy hollow very easily!
