We had a pretty good weekend. Well except for Friday night when we were watching the news and suddenly our (local based) bank was front and center as being closed by the FDIC. Yikes!!! Luckily when we went Saturday morning we were welcomed to the new ownership and assured that all transactions with our accounts should continue as normal and debit cards and checks will go through with no issues until we decide to change them. We are still shopping for a new bank regardless.
On to the AWs, the city of Detroit has owed me over $500 for taxes since 2008. I never expected to see this money (it is a long ridiculous story), then Friday out of the blue we got a check.
Then Saturday dh's grandmother gave us money for a crib and and dh's parents gave us money for whatever we wanted for the baby (probably will go for a travel system). These were pleasant surprises because there were no strings attached as of yet, I was certain that they would want to talk about the shower.
So we got our nursery furniture. We ended up with this crib and matching 5 drawer dresser and decided against the dresser that doubles as a changing table. With a trade in, and two coupons (one for $100 gift certificate) we 'saved' over $300.
Oh one other sort of AW!!!!
MIL: to DH on Saturday "ummm so Wendy didn't take your name did she?"
Yay no more hiding this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No idea how she figured it out, dh actually joked that she probably dug through the garbage.

Thanks, I am somewhat a copycat because one of the girls on my local has it and another is getting it but the manufacturer get's good reviews and the girl that has it has said the finish still looks good.
DH sort of put me in a panic because he insisted on ordering the convertible kit and rails that night so I wasn't able to get a coupon/discount for them.

Yay for getting your crib ordered and for the other $$ gifts! Our crib from BRU came very quickly, I was anxious about delivery time. Scott is smart for wanting to order the conversion kit now. I've heard bad stories about waiting until you need them. As it is, ours took about 6 months to come it and are now safely in the basement.
Lol, glad MIL confronted Scott and not you and it didn't seem to be too bad!

Pretty furniture. DH and I go back and forth on furniture for our distant future not even yet on the radar child, lol!
Score on the tax refund! Our state one from VA came Friday, but now the IRS is saying it won't even process federal until noon today, boo!

I love the crib! They got an A- in baby bargains and it is solid hardwood (rubberwood). I just got the same brand/color this weekend in a slightly different shape.

I sort have forgotten about the kit and rails. doh!
We are finding out hopefully on the 23rd but not sharing, well except for probably here. LOL We plan to reveal at the baby shower but really wanted to avoid baby clothes overkill and thought not telling was the best way to go.
I know it came down to that and a similar Europa one but we definitely prefer a darker finish so we went with that one even thought it was like 100 bucks more.
Yay for MIL figuring out that you didn't change your last name. My first thought was that she probably snooped through your trash again.

My MIL just found out on Thanksgiving that I haven't taken DH's last name. I was a bit tipsy on wine, and I just told her. Basically we are doomed to be divorced because of it. Blah blah!
Phew! Glad that's out of the way?! She would have found out at the hospital anyway. Maybe she was looking at your u/s? Does it have your name on it?
Nice crib! We got the non-convertible kind in white -- definitely b/c of the great review in Baby Bargains and no MDF. It's still going strong, despite Jacob rattling the sides now and then! I know another Oct08 nestie has the same one we do (but in brown?) I think it's Dana.

DH told me he tried explaining to her I am sure he stumbled throught he expanation. If she asks me I will simply say I made the decision way before I met DH and he knew when he proposed.
If she gets all pi$$y I will remind her that she likely would feel different if dh had been a girl and wanted to keep her name.

Fortunately, DH had my back and supported...and made a joke that he was going to take my name. Ha. She was upset, but oh well. She still writes my name as Stacy DH's lastname. I don't mind if people refer to me as that, but she is deliberately doing that. She is just doing it to pi$$ me off! Oh, and and she almost had a heart attack when I told her that I sometimes sleep in the guest bed..because DH snores so loud and I have crazy insomnia. I don't think she will be visiting us anytime soon. 
Man before that book I was actually considering PBK, so glad I thought to research more.

Thanks Lindsay, I def value your opinion, I wondered if people would think it was too dark for a babies room, but the room gets a ton of morning sunlight and we will stick to light paint shades so I think it will even it out.
