I'm afraid of my sink

So, I'm afraid of my new sink.

I finally got to Googling the brand name of the sink, and there are some really horrific reviews online about how bad it scratches and looks crappy after only months.

The instructions suggest getting a protective mat in the bottom and waxing the sink (car wax) to restore the luster.

I'm trying to tell myself that the people who love their new sink wouldn't necessarily go online and rave about it with reviews, right?

A lot of the reviews are the same review copy/pasted on a lot of sites. There are less than 20 reviews total.

Greg's theory is "too late now"

Ugh....I should have looked into them before i pulled the trigger.

Greg made this 100% my purchase because I'm a terrible decision maker. He'd install whatever I bought.

I'm spazzing now because I feel like I'm going to fail at it.

I emailed the manufacturer to find out if I should wax it before I ever use it.  it just says to wax to restore the luster (aka. hide scratches)

Re: I'm afraid of my sink

  • Ugh...Hopefully it's not that bad.

Definitely wait and see what the manufacturer says, I am sure they have some tips that will be helpful. If people have complained, they've probably attempted to do something about it (you would hope).

It hurts when anything new gets scratches. Like our brand new house when we bought it...the first scratch I made on our beautiful hardwood floors...Ouch. That one hurt.  Hopefully it won't be too bad.

  • Scary. I put way too much stock into reviews (got that from my dad). It drives Clint crazy. Hopefully they're just disgruntled idiots who expected to never have to clean it.

  • I usually discount 50% of reviews because people are just plain stupid. Honestly. One of the reviews for our gorgeous crib was a 1 star because it was "hard to put together". It's not the manufacturer's fault they couldn't read directions!

I would just treat the sink with kid gloves for awhile until you get used to it, and then maybe was it ever few months to be on the safe side. But not in the beginning because, just like a car, it should have some protective-something-or-other already on it.

    You'll be fine!

  • Email response from sink company. How do we feel?

Thank you for your e-mail. Magic eraser should be ok to use. We have tried it on our granite line of sinks and it works well.

Not necessary to wax before use unless you just want too. Every couple of months is a good idea.

Keep in mind our sinks do have a lifetime warranty so if there is ever an issue we will send you a new sink.

  • I wouldn't sweat it.  MIL has a white sink like yours and when it scratches up she uses Soft Soap (the thick white stuff) with a little sponge to buff it out.  Its 20 something years old and certainly doesn't look like it.
  • I think it's going to be ok. Less than 20 reviews isn't enough to make a good assessment. Most people only make reviews online if they're mad about something. You're right that people who have a good experience with a sink may not be inclined to go write a review.

  • It sounds like if it scratches really bad you can return it...  I wouldn't worry.  It looks like from your e-mail they have great customer service.

  • Oh crap!

We've definitely experience this kind of situation before.  My husbands phone has a scanner on it which we used all the time now.  We've been caught in bad reviews with expensive purchases.  Keeping my fingers crossed that the bad reviews are people who just didn't take care of the sink or follow the instructions.
