So my dad sings with a competitive Barbershop quartet. Over the years, he and his quartets have done "Singing Valentines" on Valentine's Day, and they go around to people's places of work and serenade them. I've never been the recipient of a Singing Valentine, mostly because H either thought I'd be too embarrassed by it or because he didn't think security at my office in recent years would allow it.
Unbeknownst to me, last week, H arranged everything with my dad, actually called our head of security, cleared the quartet to come in, then apparently called my boss, who let the rest of my department (and most of my entire floor) in on the secret.
I was sitting here at my computer when my boss runs over to me and says "TARA! You need to come with me RIGHT NOW, we have a HUGE problem." I get my slow, pregnant butt out of my chair and follow her with a look of horror on my face as I see one of our security guards standing down the hall. (That's usually not a good sign.) As I walk around the corner, half my floor is gathered around, smiling at me, holding up cameras. I'm thinking, "What in the hell is going on, this isn't my baby shower..." Then I look to my left, and there's my dad and his quartet, decked out in tuxes and red ties, holding a rose and a box of chocolates out to me. They have me sit down and proceed to sing "A Wink and A Smile," "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and another older, cute song I hadn't heard before. I was bright red with embarrassment, (quartets can get LOUD) but I loved it -- it was so sweet to have my dad do that and know H set it up.
I'm going to have to cook H a really nice dinner tonight to thank him. ![]()
