for those of you who we're FB friends, you may have already seen...
This past week I was a huge idiot. On Sat, 2/5 (a week ago), I came back from running errands and apparently forgot to lock the car (even though I remember getting out, walking a few car length and thinking, crap I didn't lock it and going back, I must have hit the wrong button).
So this Sat, DH & I go to the car and b/c of the snow, I get in first (planning on pulling up to pick DH up on the corner). I sit down and think to myself, "Weird, why would H have moved Oscar's life-jacket to the front seat", then I think "wait, H hasn't been in the car" and then I open the glove box and sure enough, all of H's cds and his sunglasses are gone. Then I yell to DH, "we've been robbed" and DH comes over and looks and confirms (ha, as if I needed it).
The funny thing is that the thief left the $100 bike pump that was in the trunk and also the "iTrip" for the ipod. But he did take about 15 "real" cds and 40 burnt ones, as well as a 5-yr old pair of Oakleys. He/She also took a set of sheets that were in the car. They had been a mystery wedding gift (no tag/card, etc, only a Kohls box). They smelled of smoke so I had planned on exchanging them for a diff color but hadn't gotten around to it.
Thank God it wasn't the apt...but at the same time, I realized I had a photobook in the trunk that was waiting to be shipping, so not only could the thief realized we're newly married and would have "goodies" in our home, he also could have gotten our address from the return label. I just pray that he/she was in a hurry and didn't think to look.
It made for a really "fun" afternoon. Not.
Re: Another crappy weekend...
Getting fit for IVF!
Well that blows. Sorry that happened, it's always a terrible feeling. Chances are they were in a rush. They usually get in, grab what the want and then take off.
My friends boyfriend just leaves his car unlocked. His outlook on it is: if someone wants to get into his car to steal something, he'd rather have them just open the door than smash the window.

glad it wasn't anything super valuable, but it's a violating feeling. I doubt they'd process the wedding photo book with being newly-weds and the valuable stuff in the house... they're just looking for something to get them their next score, and houses are a lot more risky to break in to.
Re: leaving the car unlocked: My parents used to have their car broken into on a regular basis in the 1970's to steal their stereo. After the second time they started leaving the car unlocked, as it was more expensive to replace the window that they'd break than the stereo itself (and this was before you had automatic windows with motors that could break/get damaged).
Glad it wasn't worse, but still really sucks
Dang! That really sucks! I'm glad that he didn't listen to the cds often, but still it is awful to have anything stolen.
I used to leave my car unlocked all of the time, and one morning I went to my car and found that my Bible had been stolen from the front seat. It was in a zippered case, so I think that they thought it was a planner and might have money in it or something. I found it incredibly humorous and hoped that maybe when they realized what they had stolen they would have a little moment of conviction that would change their ways. :-)
<thumbs up> I would have loved to see their face when they opened it. Think they kept it and read it?

Who steals BURNED CDs? I mean, who steals anything really. That's super scumbaggy. But If someone jacked my burned CDs, I'd be baffled. Then again, all my burned CDs are petty much unlabeled mixes, and if someone felt the need to steal those, I'd be more confused than anything.
I'm so sorry Hannah.

I agree...it's such a strange emotion to feel so violated!
