Moms help with tantrums in public please!

Lately Landen's tantrums have been out of control! When we are at home I either leave him on the ground kicking and screaming and tell him when he is ready to use his big boy words mommy will listen. Or when they get out of control with hitting, kicking, biting and throwing, I put him in his room until the time out timer goes off or he is calm down enough then we talk about what ever happened. When your out and they melt down what do you do? When we are in a situation here a shopping cart is available I just strap him in, this usually ends up with him screaming and I get horrible looks but o well. But then there are places like doctors offices (he is too big for our travel system and flips the umbrella stroller) where he is trowing him self on the floor, I pick him up and hold him, where he usually starts kicking and hitting me. If I hold him down so he can't he screams. I feel horrible for other people but I can't always leave the appointment or other situations. I don't really want to make a habit of doing that either because then he gets what he wants. Any advice would be great. He is currently sitting in his room, so I could stop crying I have bruises on my legs from how bad it was this afternoon at my appointment.

  • I wish I had some good advice. We've had some luck calming tantrums using the Happiest Toddler on the Block methods and I'm finishing that book and starting 123 Magic this week as well. Otherwise I'm not sure what to tell you - maybe ask the pediatrician for some advice?
