WWYD about baby eating

So I am pretty sure that I have posted before about Owen's previous eating issues.  But, just to catch people up...from day 1 Owen has struggled with eating.  First it was BF then bottles, then solids at 6 months.  He had reflux, which has seemed to clear up, and he has ups and downs with trying new foods then refusing to eat.  He looks healthy and is for the most part happy.  He is super active.  With that said, he is underweight.  He is under the 10th%.  His pedi doesn't seem super concerned, but he does have to go for weight checks every 6 weeks or so.  She will probably keep him on formula longer and if he loses weight he will have to get tested for allergy (although she doesn't think he has one b/c his diapers are fine)

So the reason why I am concerned now is that I am pretty sure he is teething, but in general he just doesn't want to eat recently.  He is SOOOOOOO picky with the things he will put in his mouth and throws most food on the floor.  I could probably name 5-6 things that he will eat.  This weekend was really bad and today he pretty much refused everything.  I don't know if I should call his pedi.  His 1 year appt is in a few weeks

Thoughts?

Re: WWYD about baby eating

  • landen has a ton of allergies, but he was supper picky and for the longest time was under weight he stayed on formula (ellacare) until  about two months ago. our EI and pedi just kept telling me they will eat when they are hungry and if they will only eat one thing then just keep giving them that. For about 5-6 months landen lived off his milk and chicken nuggets with fruit every once in a while. After a while the started eating other things but is still on the picky side and not allowed to have a lot.  He is now doing good as far as weight. I would keep offering him anything he will eat and toalk to you pedi about it at his follow up.
  • Is he still doing ok drinking his milk/formula?  I would think that as long as he is getting enough of that he is ok since most of their calories, etc come from formula/bm until a year anyway.  I'm sure you'll talk about it at his 1 year appt but for now I think as long as he's getting his formula and offer him anything else he is willing to eat he'll be fine.  I struggled with M from day one too, and I think I mentioned this in one of your other posts but she really didn't eat much other than her bottles until a year maybe even a little after (she's also in 10% for weight) she just wouldn't take to it.  Now she is super picky and only eats certain things but she is eating much larger quantities, I just try to make sure she's getting her calories, protein, veggies, as much as I can.  I know how frustrating it is, good luck!!
