I said it didn't really bother me (or whatever the 3rd option is), haha
I think it's kind of lame - but I don't hate it.

Not the stupidest thing I ever heard....but pretty stupid.
I feel like Tre, in reference to him being the third, sounds more like something his friends in high school or college would come up with as a nickname. Also reminds me of H's friend Jeb, which I always thought was his name, but they are his initials. Everyone calls him Jeb though. I think John, his real name, is much better. In that case, I'm not sure if the family came up with and started calling him Jeb, or if it was his friends.
Also, as someone who was always called Katie, and has lobbied to be Kathryn since middle school, I can tell you that it is really hard to get rid of nicknames. If they are calling him Tre, he will forever be Tre.
And yeah, if no one else actively uses Russell, then why do they even need the nickname?
:Blog:
My brother's nickname is PJ for Philip Junior. He hates it. When he made his confirmation he took the name Joseph and pretty much doesn't even acknowledge his given middle name (Bruce). When people ask what PJ stands for he says Philip Joseph.
Not knowing the backstory, I think it's okay. I voted for cute. My dad is a Jr. and when I was in the womb, he wanted to pass the name on, so I'd be a third. And this next comment just sticks in my head: My mom looked him dead in the eye and said, "You are NOT naming my son Robert the Turd!"
So I always think of "Robert the Turd" when I hear someone is a third. So I think Tre is alright.
However, now knowing that neither dad nor grandpa go by Russell, why not just call him Russ or Rusty or something?
It isn't that important to the family. Scott said at Christmas he didn't want to name his son that.
And I never said I had to like it, but I will have to hear it for the rest of my life and I think it is annoying. Even "Trip" makes more sense then Tre (I also detest the spelling). It was an informational poll to see if I was being unreasonable in my distaste and clearly I was not although the verdict is split.
I'm just going to call him Rusty I think.
