Has anyone tried acupuncture before? I have a lot of tension areas in my upper neck/shoulder area (mainly related working as a RN) and was hoping to have a good way to alleviate some of that pain. I get massages every 2-3 months or so, but the relief only lasts about a day or so. I was trying to find something that could help me for a longer period of time post-treatment.
Anyways, my first session is tomorrow but wanted to see if any of you lovelies have tried it before. Any thoughts? Good? Bad?

I have never been for pain but my dad had and had a really positive experience. He went to my ND practice so they also offered up some good lifestyle advice too.
I went A LOT prior to getting pregnant for hormonal issues. Again, it was at an ND office so acu was just part of my treatment plan (along with lifestyle changes and herbs and lots of one on one regarding blood work). I also went very late in my pregnancy for relaxation and labor induction since I was dx'd with pre-eclampsia and needed to bring my blood pressure down and get LO ready to be kicked out. I went every other day for a week before I had him.
My sister goes to a LAc for anxiety and sleep trouble and loves it. She just goes as an outside component of her therapy and mainstream medications but her MD is very supportive.
Thanks for all the feedback!
So, I went to my appt on Monday. I have to say that it is kind of weird to have little fine needles in your body. They put some in my legs, arms, head, neck/shoulders, and feet. I felt like I actually slept really well that night and woke up this next morning feeling quite rested (sleep issues was one of my problems). I also felt a bit of pain alleviation from my upper shoulder area. Overall, pretty pleased with the experience. But also a bit skeptical still---?placebo effect? I am actually going back on Friday b/c the LAc wants to try cupping on my upper shoulder/neck area. This should be interesting...
