Corian Countertops?

Does anyone have Corian countertops in their kitchen?  Dh and I are trying to figure out what kind of countertops to put in our kitchen.  We liked the Corian because they have a seemless sink.  The other option is to do granite.  If you have Corian do you like it?  Are there any problems with it?

TIA

Re: Corian Countertops?

  • We have Corian, and I do love the seamless sink, and backsplash.  I've had absolutely no problems with it, and it was with the house when we moved in (it's been 15 months).  Because we simply inherited it, rather than researched it for ourselves, I am not sure how heat resistant it is, so I'm careful to put a potholder down on it, but I have chopped on it, and have never noticed scratches or anything.  I really love it, and I have had people notice (and comment on the coolness of) the seamless sink.  I love just wiping the counters into the sink and not having any water or gunk in/around that seam.  Very satisfied with ours :)

  • We have silestone or one of the manufactured granites and have been very happy.
  • My great aunt had white Corian countertops and we all drooled over them (we all wondered how she kept them so spotless though).  So nice!  Our family friends also have gorgeous Corian countertops and they love them.  Someday I hope to have Corian as well. =)  (You can probably tell I'm a huge fan)

They are pretty heat resistant, but I've read that it's always advisable to use potholders or trivets (the sites I saw also said the same thing about granite).

  • DH's parents had them at their old house, and my parents have it now. I've heard no complaints from either.
  • I love Corian but it can be burned and scratched. Granite is fine but getting too popular for my taste. I like some of the engineered stone they do now (like Silestone). Have fun!
Life is a roller coaster, enjoy it!

  • Our new house has Granite in the kitchen and all of the bathrooms. We don't move in for another month so I have no idea if I like them or not yet.

  • i love mine. no scrathes, i usually put potholders down for heat, but been told no need to. cleans well, no stains it's been 3 yrs. now.
  • Given a choice between corian or granite, I would pick granite.  I just prefer the look of it.  We have corian in our guest bathrooms, and it's not what I would have chosen to put in there, though I suspect there are probably nicer corians than what we have.  Still, in a kitchen, I would pick granite if it's in the budget.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Thanks for your input ladies!  Looks like we have some thinking to do.
