Baby movement Question

So this baby doesn't really move a lot. He flips and flops, but has yet to kick me one time. I feel movement, like I said, it just feels like he is turning and twisting. I have never seen my stomach move as a result of his movement, and DH has yet to feel him even if his hand is on my stomach and I feel the "movement". Most of the movement is really low and more like my butt area is twitching and then a little twitter in my lower abdomen.

Is this weird? With Luke he was kicking the living daylights out of me starting as early as 16 weeks. I know that every kid is different, but I'm just concerned cause at almost 7 months, I feel like there should at least be a kick.

Re: Baby movement Question

  • I didn't feel a ton of kicking with Ben, it was much more shifting or rolling around.  I did see my stomach move but that was further along and it was because of the shifting.
  • A lot of what you can feel or see has to do with where the placenta is.  I'm guessing you had a posterior placenta in your previous pregnancy and you have an anterior placenta this time around.  If you have an anterior placenta, you won't feel as much because it's like you've got a big airbag in the front of your belly cushioning all the movements.

  • Thanks ladies, this makes me feel better. Mainely I think your right, I'm even a bit smaller with this one, would that make sense for an anterior placenta?

  • James rarely kicked. He was much more likely to just wang a knee or elbow in an uncomfortable place.  He did a LOT of moving, but it was rolling and turning and moving his limbs around.  Equally unpleasant, but less jarring that punches or kicks!

  • So I just looked up a lot on anterior vs posterior placentas and one of the other things about an anterior placenta is that it is very difficult to hear the heartbeat. This could be why we had such a hard time finding the hb in the beginning. I had to go in a number of times because we just couldn't find it.

Thank you. I feel so reassured now.
