5ks? in early summer?

So I have posted about this before, but I have a ridiculous amount of weight to lose since getting married.  I'm going to start eh CT5K, BUT I feel like I need a goal and register for a race to help motivate me.  Does anyone know of some fun (non competitive) 5ks in the early summer that I would be able to sign up for?  thanks!

Re: 5ks? in early summer?

  • I've done a few 5Ks through Charities Challenge and LOVE them.My first race ever was through them.

It's very non-competitive and they're run/walks, so people can walk as much of it as they like too. Very family-oriented events. Really fun and a very light-hearted atmosphere.

    Here's their website: www.charitieschallenge.org

I know a couple other nesties who have done their races and love them too. I'm signed up for the ones on 3/13, 4/3, 7/4, 9/11, and 10/29. They have ones every month. The entry fees are usually around $25 and includes refreshments and a nice t-shirt.

Most of their 5Ks are at Como around the Lake. It's a little less than 2 times around the lake, if that helps at all to visualize a distance.

Congrats on starting C25K. I started training for my first 5k last summer and got HOOKED on running. Now I'm training for my first half marathon! Lots of fun.

  • THANKS!  This looks like what I need.  I think that if I have something I'm signed up for I have to work on completing the c25k, right?

I need to get in shape again and I feel like this is how it will happen!

Good luck on your continued training!

  • You could also check www.active.com.  You can search for races on a certain date or for a certain distance.

Good luck!!  C25K kicked my butt the first day but if you stick with it, it WILL get easier!!!  I like Robert Ullrey's podcasts.  I've done two 5ks now and that still kind of amazes me.  I went from not being able to run 30 seconds without feeling awful to being able to run 20 minutes straight.  My goal is to run a WHOLE 5k.  I've had to walk a little bit of the 2 I've done.

All proceeds go to charity, and if you have a dog, they can come too.

  • I also have good luck using www.runningintheusa.com.  I've signed up for MrsDawnMarie's 5K already so I'm excited for the 5K season to start.  Good Luck!

Ooooh that could be fun bringing Renzo.  He's not a  good walker but he is getting better at running.  :-)   And I did just get some fancy new running shoes!  I'll have to check my calendar.

  • I'm excited!  It's great to do a 5K for a good cause and everything I've read about your stepdad (in the local paper)---he was a great guy and I'd love to be part of the day :-)  I hope a lot of people sign up

He was a fantastic man. We're expecting it to be a lot of family members, since it's our first time, and we don't really know what we're doing, but hopefully we'll get the hang of it and grow every year. :) I hope people sign up too!
