Used camera from National Camera Exchange

Has anyone bought a used camera from National Camera Exchange?  Were they honest with the quality of the camera?  Would you buy a used one again?

Re: Used camera from National Camera Exchange

  • I have not done it personally, but if I was going to look in to it, National Camera would be the only place I would consider.  I have dealt with them on other camera issues and have been nothing but pleased.  I would imagine that their used cameras would be in very good shape.

  • I have not purchased a used camera - but National, while they are reputable - they also tend to run higher in price on stuff than other places.

I am on a private photography board that consists of people who enjoy photography as a hobby, and professionals that have amazing businesses - and I would bet that 95% if not more would suggest looking at B&H photo http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/Used-Equipment/ci/2870/N/4294247188
    or Adorama http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?op=category&cat1=Used

Both are online obviously - but their customer service can not be beat and I know of about 10 girls who have purchased used on either site and have had the best of experiences.

  • Thanks for the suggestion.  I've bought film from Adorama but didn't realize they sell used equipment, too. National Camera appeals to me because I can look at the cameras and ask questions but I see after just a quick look through those websites that their prices are indeed higher.

If you drop me an email I can have photographs of a unit you are interested in sent to you.

Also, if you send me your telephone number one of our reps can call you to describe the unit in detail.

Every used item carries a 90-day warranty - which includes a 30-day returns period, whether the item is defective, or you simply change your mind!

  • I would never, ever buy a used camera from an online place. I would only ever consider National Camera.

Also, I don't like that the vendor posted in this thread as the vendor, seemingly only because she wanted to sell their service.

No kidding.  They obviously monitor the nest for posts which feels pretty creepy and a bit stalkerish.

Well, I definitely won't be buying from Adorama in the future.  You might want to rethink your marketing techniques.

  • My apologies; there was no intention to cause any upset.

I'm not a rep for Adorama; I'm an Independent Consultant, and my job is to offer Adorama Internet customers - past, present and future - advice and support.

You're a vendor. All your previous posts on boards are in regards to Adorama. You've never been on this board before. Stop posting.

So if you could get a better deal, on the same product, with a great return policy. You wouldnt go for it? Im not being rude, but I wish I had money laying around that I could say I would pay more just to buy local instead of from one of two great companies online!

And as for the poster - she has made posts over on the bumps photography - she is harmless and isnt selling anything outright, just offering help if needed. I didnt see her post any links either to the Adorama site - I did. Just pointing that out!

I am not applying this to all products, merely cameras. I don't take money I have laying on the floor and blindly spend locally. I would spend extra to get a camera from national because I know I'm going to get a great product, with great service, and if I have problems with it, I know I can walk into the store and get help from an expert photographer. If I'm going to pay more for something, it has to be worth it, and to me, buying from NatCam is worth it. I wouldn't buy a used camera online.  I wouldn't pay more to buy a camera from Best Buy, because it isn't worth it to me. I didn't say I'd pay more just to buy locally, but I'll pay more to buy from a place I trust and know, if it's worth it.

If you look at her most recent posts, they almost all name Adorama in them. I wasn't aware that you had to link to a site to be named a vendor. She works for the company, only came here to post about the company, she's a vendor. She also hasn't come back to check and offer more assistance, to me that says she only cares about getting business for her job.

You buy your cameras wherever you want, and I'll buy mine wherever I want.

I have to agree with you on this.  If I could acquire enough knowledge to be confident in buying a used camera online, I would.  I wish I could but that's not going to happen this time around.  I know $300 - $400 isn't a lot for some people to spend on a camera but it is for me right now.  And if I'm going to spend that much, I would rather buy from someplace where I can ask questions, look and feel the cameras and go back if something comes up.  I've bought cameras from National Camera before and love being able to go in there a year later to get help.  As a newbie to photography, that's comforting to me and worth the extra money.

Plus, I can't get over the creepiness of someone stalking message boards for posts about their company.  I don't care what the intent is, it's still creepy and makes me not want to do business with them.

And yeah, she totally has the link to the company and her twitter account in her signature line.  That screams vendor to me.
