cold medicine standbys.  I am not feeling well.  I am rarely sick so I have no medication on standby when needed.  My husband brought me some meds, but I was curious what your standbys are when you are sick.

  • I have to have pseudophedrine.  Of course I have to hand over my driver's license and sign that I am not going to brew crystal meth with it to buy it, but it is the best decongestant in my opinion.

And not a medicine, but a sick "cocktail"  I love to mix Hawaiian Punch with a lemon lime soda (sierra mist, sprite, 7Up,etc) to drink when I am sick.

  • I always, always have these in my cabinet at home and at work.  Drink them as soon as you feel something creeping up on you - and continue to drink until you feel better.  The nighttime one knocks me on my asssss, so make sure you have the full 8 hours to dedicate to sleep.

    Hope you feel better!

  • Muscinex D.....LOVE it....but unfortunately I can only take it during the day (im allergic to pseudophedrine AND dipenhydramine (spelling?) so it keeps me up all night...where as it might make you sleepy (aka where people pass out with nyquill...i get hyper and paranoid and shaky and cant sleep) I'd have kicked this thing completely if i could take it 24hours a day :(

I love Tylenol cold and sinus severe (again day time formula) i had been taking it for so long that it wasnt kicking the last thing i had...so i switched to the musinex.

I love ricola's with honey and lemon...BEST thing ever!

Tea is my go to....hot, steaming tea, even if you just let it sit and hold it up to your lips but dont drink yet...the vapors are awesome :) honey in there too :)

and ofcourse i'm an ibuprofin girl....but i only take it when i cant stand headaches etc....

    Feel better! <3

  • If you don't have any cold stuff on hand, ibuprofen (or any swelling reducer really) is good to take right away to reduce swelling in your nose/sinus, and help reduce pressure and that inability to blow anything out.

most cold and flu meds have something to reduce the swelling anyway, but if I don't have any on hand, I just grab a basic pain reliever till I get to the store.

  • 2 things I swear by because it works every time...

You should take this as soon as you start feeling sick.  It is homeopathic and works great!  It is a small tube of little pellets you let disolve under your tongue.  Take every 6 hours.

I also recently discovered how wonderful this is...

It's just vitamins, but it works wonders.

Great thing about both of these are that you can use them in addition to any OTC meds you take and it won't interfere.

  • I love Airborne (and Emergen-C) too!

I'm not sure how effective the product is really in actually fighting a cold, however, the vitamins can't hurt, and I drink soooo much more water (which is really the only "right" way to treat yourself when you're sick) when I have these tablets or packets to drink it with  - because water tastes sooo gross when you're sick.

  • My body responds really well to Vitamin C, so I get an extra bag of oranges and OJ at the store if I'm starting to now feel well.

     Otherwise, we both use Airbourne

  • Tylenol cold and flu. It's got everything in it, and the night time version had codine or something, so you sleep regardless of how $hitty you feel.
  • I don't like to take meds unless I am really sick.  I usually take Dayquil or Nightquil when I am really since.  I also have had good results with Alka Seltzer cold and flu (I think that is what it is called).  I hope you feel better :)

  • I am just now getting over a nasty cold/flu.  My go to meds are Emergen-C and Theraflu.  If you are running a fever or just hurt all over, I suggest drinking some Theraflu and taking a couple extra strength asprin, that usually works for me.  I hope you feel better soon!
