My Kitty brought me a present this morning

So I had just gotten out of the shower and walked into the bedroom. When I see something small and gray near the bed. At first I think it's one of my kitties toys (she does have a toy mouse). Then I realize it's an ACTUAL mouse and I FREAKED OUT (I just can't handle mice at 7AM even thought it was small and kind of cute)

DH was in the shower at the time and I refused to leave the bathroom until he was done. I tried to coax my kitty to go back into the bedroom but she was clearly not interested at this point. I'm pretty sure I also shrieked at one point.

And the worst part?!?!! IT'S STILL ALIVE!!! I'm pretty sure my cat was waiting until we left to torture it some more. DH managed to get it into a box and said he was going to bring it down to the basement.

So I was going between praising my kitty to freaking out at her. DH thinks she was giving the mouse to me as a present. I'm just glad she decided not to put it on the BED.

So that was MY morning. How was yours?

  • OMG EWWWWW NOT a good morning surprise!! I can't even imagine.....

And also....why is your DH bringing it down to the basement?

  • I don't know why he said basement. We live on the 6th floor so I didn't care as long as it was out of the apt!

    This. All of this.

For the record, I probably would have screamed and DH probably would have thought I was being murdered. Now that would not have been a good morning surprise!

  • I made a squeeling noise and ran back into the bathroom and yelled MOUSE MOUSE MOUSE OMG GET IT OUT!!!!!

He gave me a weird look and said "Was that you shrieking?"

Meanwhile kitty is looking at me like she is hot sh*t. Well I suppose all those hours of prowling in the kitchen has paid off. She started running around the kitchen and I thought for a terrible second she was playing with it.

  • I would have had DH take it up a giant mountain and leave it there FAR FAR AWAY from anywhere near out house. :) hehe

I'm an animal lover just not when they are living rent free in my house without my knowledge!

For the record, I probably would have screamed and DH probably would have thought I was being murdered. Now that would not have been a good morning surprise!

Once, I opened the bathroom cabinet for some TP and a giant cockroach came crawling(quickly!) out. I screamed like a banchee repeatedly (ahhh! ahh! ahhh! ahhh! etc.) until DH came running inside. He literally thought I was being attacked and was not pleased w/ me when he learned it was a roach. SICK.

I would have required death to said mouse. DH says that I shouldn't kill innocent creatures, but I say that Florida law allows me to kill people who enter my home uninvited, so I'm certain that applies to creepy crawlies as well.

  • My freshman year of college I opened one of the dresser drawers and saw a mouse scamper across it. I screamed, shut the door and didn't come back to my dorm for the whole day.

Call it self defense. I am convinced (jokingly, of course) that all spiders and other creepy crawlies are coming to eat me and thus deserve to die.

  • Oh, my mouse story as well.

When I was 6 or so, we were having problems with a mouse in our house so we knew he was around and my dad was actively hunting him down. I opened the silverware drawer in the kitchen to get something and the mouse was sitting there all serene right on top of all the silverware. I screamed really loud and slammed the drawer closed and ran away. My dad came into the kitchen thinking something terrible had happened and proceeded to hunt down the mouse. I think he was more upset that I didn't kill/catch it when it was looking right at me. Thanks dad.

AND, in high school a mouse ran over my foot in the band room. It was pouring rain outside so the mouse figured inside was the best place to be. He was happy until someone disturbed his hiding place and my foot was in his direct path to the door. I flipped and hopped around like a little girl while everyone laughed at me. Fun times.

  • I literrally almost screamed as I read your post!

@Rach:  I agree with your reasoning on why it's okay to kill innocent creatures! I do the same thing!  If they stay outside where they belong, I will leave them be.

  • Yikes! What a morning surprise!  Glad your kitty is taking care of a possible mouse problem though.  I was ready to "borrow" my friend's cat when we had a mouse problem, but figured the mouse traps are more humane and cleaner ;)  Hope any other mice are scared away!

  • Aaaaaaghhh!  OK that totally beats that time when I went into the bahtroom and found a centipede in the shower.  DH to the rescue!

I also saw a mouse out of the corner of my eye as I sat at the computer desk a few months ago.  The SOB ran underneath the stove.  We don't have a cat, and set traps all over the house but we think it found its way out.  Nothing caught and no more turds since November.  :)

  • Just a little update: Apparently kitty bit off the poor mouse's FOOT. She was TOTALLY going to torture that little mouse once we left I just know it!

DH let it out of the box in the basement and it hobbled away. Hopefully it is ok, and that I never see it again!
