Valentines Day. Is this a fail or not?

So, this is how it went.  I get off work at 4:30 and walk up the street to the Hardware store to meet DH to buy a new caribeener for my keys.  He is waiting there with a bouquet of flowers and Lindt chocolate...  (total pass...) and he had sent me an e-card that I still haven't got (pass!).  We get home and I make dinner as planned and we eat it with candlelight (neutral).  Then DH goes to make cabinet shelves as planned for an hour or so (harder than I thought since it was Valentine's Day).  Then he reads his paper until 9:45 and I read it with him for a bit and then sleep on his lap (Fail-ish, total pass for him.) I get mad at him because we don't spend it romantically and he's mad at me because I'm mad at him...  And we talk it through and end the evening semi-neutrally.

So is that a fail?

How was your Valentine's Day?

Re: Valentines Day. Is this a fail or not?

  • I'm going to say that is not a fail.

Ours was decent.  We went to dinner with friends and had a great time, but ate way too much.  Got home at about 9:30pm, were snuggling in bed (with the light on), and then fell asleep.  I guess margarita + too much food + comfy warm bed =/= sexy time.

  • very not a fail.

i got home from work, we ran errands, grocery shopped and had leftovers for dinner. i gave him two cards (one funny, one serious) and some chocolate. he didn't get me anything (totally fine... but he needs to learn we're not exchanging gifts doesn't mean cards aren't appropriate, lol!). we were both asleep by 10:00, no sexy time.

    i think i win for fail.Wink

  • I don't think it's a fail - sounds like a nice, quiet evening.

Our Valentine's Day was just another day. I told H not to send me anything and to hang on to my gift/card/whatever until I get out there. Spent the day with my dad until his plane took off for Afghanistan [that sucked], then followed my mom around town. Did some grocery shopping and finally put together JJ's work bench that he got for his birthday [that was a hot mess, but it's all put together the way the instructions say it should be, so works for me].

  • I wouldn't call it a fail either.

We didn't make any reservations for obvious reasons, so we went to Seasons 52 and sat in the piano bar area, which is first come first serve. I had the quail and it was very yummy! We don't really do gifts for V day, but we did exchange cards. DH wrote in mine "For Valentine's Day, I got you a baby, but it's late... I'm sorry!" Haha!! Then, he went on to write some mushy stuff. I'm definitley keeping that one :) I fell asleep on the drive home. Oops.

  • Definitely not a fail.

I met DH, SIL, and nephews up at his mom's house and BIL brought us some BBQ for supper. He got me some Ghirardelli chocolate and I got him some fancy cupcakes. We went home around 7:30 and I got the baby ready for bed. He asked if I wanted to do the Valentine's Day dirty and my answer was "sure." Haha, how's that for romantic? He wanted to go upstairs at 9 but I stayed on the computer for the next hour. I can't believe I stayed up until 10:30! Amazing!

  • Here's how our valentine's day went:

DH got home around 8. "Hi DH! Yay you have GS cookies!" *Stuff my face**b!tch about work* "Ok goodnight!"

Yours was full of win in comparison.

    That is so cute!

Bonnie, I don't think your V-Day was a fail, either.

  • It wasn't a fail til you got mad at each other; that was silly. Mine: I canceled our dinner reservations. Drove home, grabbed E's gift, which had arrived, off the back porch, and put it In my office with his card. Walked the dog, fed the cats, waited for E who trudged his way in, looking awful. I went to the supermarket, picked up fresh soup for E and some other stuff we needed like toilet paper and tissues. Also bought some Reese's, his fave, and some pistachios, which he also loves. Came home, he ate soup and I ate hummus. He asked that we not do gifts and cards since he felt miserable and hadn't been able to finish shopping for me. We watched tv, and went to bed at 9, where he slept fitfully and I read a book. I win the fail.
  • Not a fail, Bonnie.

Ours was nice. H got home and we exchanged cards and small gifts; except in his card he said "good for one jewelry modification. " Basically, I received some gorgeous pieces that were his aunts (or belonged to his aunt, but were his grandmothers) when she passed. I want to make one into a pendant and TBD on something else. So, I'm allowed to do that. Depending on the cost, it may be valentines/anniversary/birthday present, which is fine with me. Then we went to dinner @ Ming Tsai's place, and it was delicious.

  • Thanks, girls.  It looks like I just had my head in the clouds and needed a dose of reality.  I appreciate it (and will try to appreciate DH more.).

  • The flowers and chocolate at the hardware store is adorable! But the fighting is definitely not a fun way to spend V-day. Glad you guys worked it out.

H and I made plans to go out to a nice lunch since I work nights. Lunch was fabulous but around 5:30 I started feeling a little sad about eating soup at my desk on Valentine's. So I text DH "What are you doing for dinner?" and he wrote back "Coming to see my wife." We ended up grabbing a quick bite at a deli, but I was just glad we got to spend time together.

The flowers and new sweatshirt he bought me in AZ this weekend were great too Smile

  • I got a gag gift.  Yes, seriously.  DH was going to take my car, wash it and put gas in it (while I was at work).

Mistake 1.  I was up late doing cake pops for him Sunday so I didn't pack my lunch.  This resorted in running out for a quick lunch in which I see him pulling up to school.

Mistake 2.  Did not account that everyone and their mom is washing cars right now and the line was too long.

Mistake 3.  As a gag gift, I got bubbles and a set of 4 plastic girls rings from the dollar section at Target.

So, after hours spent Saturday searching for things to make the cake pops, hours making them Sunday, and almost 1 hour waiting for a heart shaped pizza at Papa Murphy's and getting that - he went to bed alone.  I made sure he was asleep before I went to bed.  Bitchy yes, but I was mad.

I think I win - not that I wanted to win.

I had to read this 2x to make sure I was reading it right. Yeah, not the best thought out plan on his part... but I guess he had good intentions?
  • Not a fail. I think it sounds like a nice night at home (without the fight of course). I spent my night home alone, DH worked but came home around 11:45 with flowers and a card, so it was still a nice night.
  • Don't worry-we had a HORRIBLE dinner!

DH ordered a steak-it was completely blood red and purple on the inside.  It was gross.  We sent it back, it took 25 minutes to get a new one.  I was done with dinner by the time he got his.

Our waitress wasn't even nice about it, though she did admit it was completely undercooked.  Then it took us 20 plus minutes to get a check, never got drink refills and took her another 20 minutes to get the check.

This was not a busy restaurant at all either-maybe 10 total tables with 2 waitresses.

No manager ever came to note the huge mess up.  It was a huge dinner fail.

  • Ugh, Alyssa, gross!  What restaurant?  I want to cross it off my list.
