A mom question- about dry ice and shipping
I have to come up there for 3 full business days in a month. I will need to pump for DS, obviously, though he will be staying home with DH.
Question- how does buying dry ice, packing, and shipping work? Do any of you have recommendations for companies in Cambridge, preferably around the Kendall Sq. or Central Sq. area?
And no, I cannot imagine dumping it all out. We're talking about about 100 ounces of breastmilk just wasted if I can't find a way to preserve it and ship it home. I don't know that Logan security will let me through with that much milk plus with the bags I already have, I'm unsure if it's feasible to get a cooler onto the plane with me in addition.

I ship samples on dry ice for work. You would need a styrofoam box inside a card board box (you have to have special approval to ship styrofoam itself). Just a piece of tape on either side so the carbon dioxide can be released.
FedEx has a box to check on their airbill when you're shipping dry ice because it is considered a dangerous good, but you don't need any paperwork to ship it. You will need a dry ice label. If you can find a good image on the internet you could print it out. Maybe FedEx has some? We have rolls here.
We don't get dry ice delivered to us personally...we use it infrequently so we take some from another lab. I'm going to look around and find out where they get their stuff from.
So the company I think the other labs order from has a 50lb minimum order, which is way too much.
I did a google search and this place, Marc's Somerville Ice Co, came up. The few reviews on google claim they have dry ice. It is near Harvard Sq.
I have also bought dry ice from here, http://www.acmedryice.com/. Its right in Cambridge by Inman Square.
