Help a Houston Nestie please...

My family lives in the Bay Area but they, um, suck at knowing what's going and stick to the same places/things over and over and over again. OR what they know about is more in line with clubs/bars/places to be seen rather than places I can take my kiddo.

We'll be visiting for two weeks in March right after DD's birthday. I'd like some suggestions on the following if you could please:

1- a nice outdoor location that is free of charge for us to take family pictures. The closer to San Jose/South Bay the better.

2- professional photographer recommendations to take the family pictures

3- an outdoor park or location where we could have a little party for my family in Cali for DD's 1st bday. Nothing big, just a casual set up.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • I'm not sure when the roses are in bloom, but there is the Rose Garden in San Jose.   There's also the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Jose...or Vasona Park in Los Gatos would be good for pics.

For other parks, we really like Sanborn Park in Saratoga, but there are a ton of county parks that are great.   www.parkhere.org will list all the county parks.

  • Villa Montalvo in Saratoga. Beaches in Santa Cruz, Capitola, Aptos. Any park in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale - there are some big parks that would offer plenty of space without traveling. There are some open space areas: San Antonio Open Space Preserve in Cupertino, Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills. Keep in mind that March is still iffy for weather, there may or may not be rain so plan for alternatives :)

    Good luck!

Life is a roller coaster, enjoy it!

  • We took our engagement photos in Wilder Ranch State Park in Santa Cruz. It's got lots of cool old buildings and open space. We got great shots there. Not sure what you're looking to spend on these photos but the photographer we used was Danielle Gillett and I highly recommend her.
