Just married new town!

I just got married in Dec and now that all the wedding planning is over I realized I live in a new town where I don't know anybody- my friends and family are 1 hour away and so is my job- looking for ways to get involved in the community/hobbies and meet new people- any ideas????

Re: Just married new town!

  • Where do you live and where do you work? What do you like to do?

I'm probably not the best person to give advice on this because I've been living here 2 years and I haven't really joined anything or made too many new friends. But some suggestions I've gotten are volunteering or joining a book club/gym/craft club/etc.

If you have a dog, you can try a dog park. The only new friends I made outside of my new job or my H have been through bringing my dog to the park.

A while back, I met some nice girls from on here at a GTG but then board died and a lot of them migrated to the bump.

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • Hmm, I agree with the other poster. I have lived in NJ about a year and a half and haven't really found a way to make friends. But that is mostly because I didn't know anyone when I moved here and was pregnant/getting adjusted to becoming a mom so I haven't had a lot of time.

I would start trying to see if there are any clubs to join where people share your interests. I'll wish us all luck in getting out there to meet people!

  • Welcome to the area!

Tell us some more about yourself.  What do you like to do?  Do you have any hobbies?

  • I know how you feel I moved in november from north west jersey to south jersey near the beach.  All my fam and friend live at least 1.5 hours away.  I started doing some volunteer work to meet some people.  Mostly we hang out with his family and friends.

  • I am really new to this area... I re-located from Maine, I would too like to get to know some people in this area. Congrats to you!
  • I'm a lurker but I wanted to say this is something H and I talk about all the time. We recently bought a home in South NJ and want to find people to hang out with.  We like to go to happy hour on friday's but the 2 places by us have either people in their 50's or immature early 20 year olds. I'm hopeing that when we go to the beach this summer we can meet some people but we don't belomg to clubs or anything. It should be interesting to see what anyone comes up with
