Need daycare recs - downtown or NW OKC

I'm reposting this from the bump boards, ===

Hi,

I'm new here and new to OKC. We just moved here with our 2 year old and we're expecting another in a couple of months. We need daycare and I'm having a hard time finding places with availability. Below are the ones we have checked out so far:

Downtown YMCA - excellent but a TWO YEAR waiting list for their infant room?? I have no idea how one gets in this place?

St. Luke's - again, we got great vibes from here but a ONE YEAR wait list for their infant room

First Church/First Kids Learning Center - seems great, have been unable to find any reviews or first-hand recs with only a six-month waiting list

Westminster Child Care (not the school) - loved, loved this place when touring - they don't disclose how long their wait list is? They call you in March and let you know if you are in for their school year which runs June to June. Loved it so much we paid to get on the waiting list despite the huge unknown regarding wait list?

Do any of you have thoughts on these places? More specifically, what great daycares are we missing??

Thanks ladies!

  • Don't really have any recomendations but you could try using this website:

    http://childcarefind.okdhs.org/childcarefind/

Just fill out the form and where you are looking and it will list all liscensed daycares in the area. HTH!

  • I don't know how you feel about home daycares, but my LO goes to one in the Village (nw okc) and I absolutely love it! She takes up to 12 kids but some are part-time, so not all 12 are there each day, so even less kiddos. I believe the oldest is her daughter who is 3. Also, there are three people working. Just PM if you want the name and number! I can give you the reasons I love them too! haha

I also can give you a number for the Edmond Home Daycare association (a little more north, but a lot of the members are in NW OKC) they will give you numbers of those they know will have openings for the ages you need. Very helpful. Also, they are all on that PP's site she gave you.

I am sure you got the information about ages from the places you have already gone too, but if not; be sure to ask what the minimum age is they will take. Is this for both LO's? I know a lot of the churches won't take younger than 6 months of age. So, don't always assume. I'm sure you didn't, but just in case.

Also, it sounds really bad, but if you find a church daycare you really like, becoming a member actually moves you up on the list.

I don't think I'd be leery on a daycare that doesn't know if they will have an opening or not. But I would make sure your money is refundable. Things change with wait lists and openings all the time, so I wouldn't sweat it too much, but DEFINITELY have a backup!
