I have a very playful 1 and a half year old jack russell-bassett hound mix. He's never been agressive with other dogs (knock on wood) he just wants to play. But, I think he ends up annoying them in the end because he never really gets a chance to really play with other dogs when I take him on walks and stuff. So, when the chance does arrive he is kind of in their face....I'd like to give him the opportunity to learn how to play better, and burn off some energy by taking him around other playful dogs more often.
We're moving to Cinnaminson and the Laurel Acres Park dog run will be about 10 mins from our new place. So, I thought this would be a great way to get him to meet other dogs and actually get to play/run freely with them.
My questions are: Has anyone ever taken their dog there? And if so, does it usually have people there with their dogs or is it typically empty?
Re: Laurel Acres dog park
We don't have dogs but I've gone to the dog park with a friend of mine who has a boxer. Any time we were there, usually after work, there were plenty of dogs there. However, I thought that some owners weren't keeping proper attention on their dogs and I've witnessed a few fights between dogs that wouldn't have happened had the owner been paying attention.
There are lots of people at the park though. There's a long walking trail that people walk by themselves or with their dog so it may help him socialize a bit more.
We've gone there before with our dog. He's a pointer/lab/beagle mix and our dog is the same way. He is very very social and loves to play. He is at the top range for the small dog side and too small for big big dogs. Everytime we've been there, there has only been 1 or 2 other dogs. We've gone on to the big dog side to let him run with the bigger dogs after asking the owners. One time we went to let him in the small dog side with another dog but the owner said no because their dog didn't get along with other dogs. Kinda awkward.
All in all its a good dog park and people are friendly and the dogs seem to be well taken care of. The dog park area itself is kept in decent shape. My dog typically comes home exhausted after being there. It's a great park to go and walk around in as well.
Did you ask why the hell they were at a dog park then?
I'm not usually one to make waves but crap like that makes me scratch my head. We take Moxie to the dog park by us all the time and I don't get it when people knowingly bring their non-dog friendly dog to a place that is (potentially) full of dogs. I understand their dog needs exercise too but either go for a long walk/jog or take your dog out when others want to use the park.
Hahaha. I agree with Irishgrl though, that's just screaming "dog fight". Some people.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm excited to take him once this weather gets nicer. I think there's a dog park in Cherry Hill somewhere too, but it's a little further away.
