Summer vaca in CT

DH and I are thinking of taking the boys to the Mystic Aquarium and The Dinosaur Place, I think there is also a children's museum nearby. Has anyone been to these places?  Colby will be almost 5 (yikes!) and Dylan almost 2.

Thanks

Re: Summer vaca in CT

  • I've been to the Mystic Aquarium several times.  It's small, but I think it'd be fun for your age kids - they have a bunch of outside/open air exhibits with sea lions, seals, penguins etc. that are fun.

  • If you're going to be in Mystic, you could try the Seaport. Some of the stuff may be too old for them, but there are people dressed up in period costumes and they have toys that kids back then played with, and what-not. Depending on how into that stuff your kids are.

The Dinosaur Place-- are you talking about the one in Rocky Hill or the Peabody Museum in New Haven?

There's a Discovery Museum near Sacred Heart University (Fairfield). And also Kid City (Middletown).

How long will you be in CT and where are you staying? I was born and raised in CT, so I am pretty familiar with stuff there...

  • The Dinosaur Place says Oakdale. I guess it is like a big walking trail with life size dino's.  We have no concrete plans just saw those places online and thought they would be cool to check out. Are there any zoo's in the area?
  • Yes, Oakdale is Wallingford (aka Wallyworld!) and is near Middletown-- where the Kid City or whatever it's called is located).

Beardsley Zoo is in Bridgeport (along the western end of the coastline, between New Haven and the NY border). FMI: http://www.beardsleyzoo.org/
