Condom Question

Hi, a bit ago I went off my birth control for a month when I was going to get my wisdom teeth extracted. I heard sometimes it can cause clot issues and my oral surgeon said if possible to go ahead and stay off it. Well I still haven't gone back on it because I have been waiting for my period to start up again to do the whole "Sunday start" thing again for my pill.

It's been over a month and no period.

We use condoms every time we have sex, even when I am on my birth control. Is there a possibility that a condom could have broke or gotten a hole in it during sex without out us knowing? There has never been a time where we look and see nothing in a condom. It's always "full" (TMI ... sorry!).

Obviously I know, go take a pregnancy test and I am going to. I am just curious if there are good odds there and accident happened without me knowing. Really nervous. :(

Re: Condom Question

  • How over a month are you?

Yes you could be pregnant, it's possible that it broke or that a little came out through the side, condoms aren't 100% so sure there's a chance that something could have happened. Take a test just in case.

I wouldn't start freaking out too much yet though,Coming off the pill, your system might just be a little off too, it might come a little later than usual, your body might still be trying to get back into the groove of things without the pill.

  • most women have messed up cycles after stopping BCP, so that is likely what happened here, esp since you've been using condoms. it can take months for a cycle to regulate. if you're concerned, i would POAS just to calm your stress. but i'd be willing to bet it's just your body regulating.

  • You will probably feel better after you take a PG test. I have no insight on the condoms but FWIW, after I was put under for procedures (no BC before/after though) usually those cycles were extra long. I remember thinking that it probably had something to do with the stress/sedation or something, but it definitely happened two times in about a year span and usually my cycle is like clockwork. These were almost a week later than expected.

  • I went of BCP for a few months last year and my periods were so messed up and irregular I ended up back on it.  I would go for months without getting a period and when I did they would last for 3-4 weeks.

Take a test but your body is probably just adjusting to the sudden lack of hormones.

  • When I went off of it, I got my period literally the day after. My body was just really sensitive I guess.

My friend went off of it, and she didn't get her period for 2 Mos, and no, she wasn't pregnant.

    Everybody differs.

  • Well I took a PG test, came back negative. Phew.

I guess I didn't really think about the fact that the sedation from having teeth extracted might have messed some things up. I am still a little unsure. If in a couple weeks it still doesn't show up I will go to my gyno.

    Thanks all :)

  • I did not have my period for over two months after I stopped taking the BCP. It takes your body time to get back to a normal routine, which means your ovulation date might not occur as schedule. Like PP mentioned, it can also be delayed due to stress, travel, surgery, etc.
