cool grandma names (or great grandma names)

i was reading nikki's post about her gpa (what a neat guy!) and it got me thinking about cool gma names. hers is hilda and mine's was hilma. anyone else have grandmas with oldfashioned names? or great grandmas?
Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.

Re: cool grandma names (or great grandma names)

  • My Grandmothers are Veronica and Malverna (definitely not cool..and she hates it and goes by Lou, Louise being her middle name)
My Grandfathers were Jack and Brontis (but he went by Ben... Not a good name either!)
I love old names and searched and searched when I was pregnant the 1st time.. But they are all bad..except for a few but those are being used currently by cousins. Oh well!

  • hilda and her sister wilma. don and his sister mary. claire and frank. paul and mary. pretty much all catholics back then named a daughter mary.
  • My Mawmaw (on my mom's side - she's Cajun and speaks in Cajun French often) is Zenella.  My dad's mom who passed away a few years ago was Maxine.  My great-grandmother on my dad's side was Winnie (or Winifred).
  • My great grandma was Myrtle and my great grandpa was Orville :)

    Great-Grandparents- Lena and Graham

  • Howard and Betty. Dorothy and Henry. Pretty typical. Although my great aunt's name was Velma. ;) My grandpa (Howard) hates his name! Poor guy.

    Dad's parents: Nicholas and Mariam

Erics mom's parents: Virgina and Paul ( Rowan's middle name)

You can still use Jean...that's my middle name and I like it! Smile

My grandparents were Charles and Nina...but it wasn't pronounced nee-na, it was pronounced nine-a.  And one of my aunts was named after her: Nynette, pronounced nine-ette.

And then my other grandparents are Charles and Jean, which is where my middle name comes from.

J's grandparents are Carol and Bob and Bob and Barb.  His great-grandfather was named Edgar, which is where he gets his middle name.  If we have kids, we're definitely keeping Edgar in the family.  I love it!

  • Paternal Gparents - Bonnie and Edsel (still living). My gma always called my gpa "Bud"...espeically when he was being silly/annoying :)

Maternal Gparents - Henry and Grace. our girl name (if we ever have one!) is Elizabeth Grace....Elizabeth is my middle.

  • Both my gmas have/had old fashioned names: Frances and Winnifred.

  • I love old-school names!

On my side I have an Alice, Lawrence, Raymond and Irene (Great grandparents were Ann, Joseph, Violet and Peter...I'm not sure of the others off of the top of my head)

H's g-parents have passed, but they were Alice, Simon, Nell and Charles

Since we both have Grandmothers named Alice, we're certain any future daughter would have that name as well.

  • Both DH and I had Grandfathers named Glenn and both passed away the first year we were married, so I'm fairly certain a future son could get the middle name of Glenn.

My other grandfather is Merwyn, and DH's other g-pa is Jack.

Grandmothers - Colleen for  DH, I have no idea on the other g-ma, she passed away when he was little.

My grandmothers are Britt and Anne, and my step-grandmother is Merlene.

    and my step-grandmother is Merlene.

I have a relative (not sure how she's ralted, to be honest... I think she is my Mawmaw's sister-in-law?) out in "the country" as we say, named Merlene.  Never heard of anyone else with that name.
