  • YES!

    Another one bites the dust.

I picked up HG by pure chance a couple of weeks after it was released, so I had a year + wait between each book. It was torturous.

    Oh, and...

  • I had Sean buy them all for me as a Christmas gift, so I've had them all at my disposal. I wish I could read at work... I'd be able to sprint through them! the writing style is definitely unique, but it took me a few chapters to really grasp it. just some of the formations of sentences is different to me.

either way, this is an awesome trilogy. I love all the characters. I love the settings. I love the morbid nature. I love everything about it. consider me hooked.

  • This series is one of my favorites.

  • Love love love.  I got them all for my Kindle, and read the first 2 during the week my boss was away, so I may have used the Kindle for PC app to read them during work hours.  The 3rd one is not as good as the first 2, IMO.  It didn't have the can't-put-it-down quality that the first 2 had, but it was still enjoyable.

I'm totally Team Gale too.  Peeta is just so, I dunno, girly?  Mushy?  Whatever.

Yep...all this.  I just downloaded it on to my mom's kindle yesterday so that she can read it.

  • I had this exact conversation with 13 year old girls yesterday. =) The third book is a gigantic cop-out that sees that whole "who will she choose" dynamic fall to the wayside. I thought the ending was really poorly done. One of the sets of independent novel studies I give the kids is a series of distopian books - The Supernaturalist and City of Ember and Coraline round out that series, if that's what you're into.
  • I LOVED that series.  I don't care if it's technically YA material.  I really enjoyed it.  My daughter is now finishing the third book.

    Ditto Alix - TeamGale.  Yeah.

  • Wow. I'm going to have to come 'round here more. I never get support in the Team Gale thing. Who PS, you should all want to be played by Gaspard Ulliel in the movies, mmkay? Thanks. Stick out tongue

    See? Perfect Gale...

Kaesha, how old are these kids? Too young [I'm allergic to children so I'm at a loss here Stick out tongue] for something like Brave New World (Huxley)? Or The Handmaid's Tale (Atwood)? Those are hands-down my two favourite dystopian-leaning novels. And Coraline of course, but that's just because I want to marry Neil Gaiman as a general rule...

  • well I'd like to state that I'm not yet finished with the third book, so my vote may change. but for now, I'm definitely Team Gale. Peeta is too much of a girl for me... I mean I get that he's always loved her, but why not speak up about it? lame.

I want Zooey Deschanel for Katniss.

She's way too old! I'm rooting for Malese Jow or Hailee Steinfeld.

  • I have no idea who those people are, haha. if she's too old, then I want someone LIKE her who better fits the age. someone small and slight, powerful but meek.

  • Brave New World is teh weirds.  Granted I'm listening to it, not reading it, and only around half way (stupid iPhone lost my place, damn you iOS 4.1!!).  I really should finish it.

  • Hailee Steinfeld is the girl in the new True Grit movie. I think she's a little young (14) but she could definitely do it.

Malese Jow played Anna on The Vampire Diaries and she was in The Social Network too.

  • **Spoiler Alert**  (Mockingjay)

I agree about the ending.  I didn't like it how everything was tied up with a neat bow and everyone lived happily ever after (well, as close to happily ever after as it gets in that society).  It's not like Katniss to just settle like that.

  • I've been thinking about starting the serious, now I'm definitely going to.

I love The Handmaid's Tale! That's a great read. Some of the grade nines could handle it, but really it's a 16+ book. It's the structure and language that they wouldn't get.

  • OMG this book is like crack. I decided to listen to a little of it in audio book form before I decided to read it or not. Now i am hooked on it and want to finish listening to it don't know if i could wait to get eh book and read it.
