taxes and a baby question

What proof do I need that Chase is my kid when I file taxes?  Do I need his birth certificate or just his ssn?

Re: taxes and a baby question

  • The last two years I have only needed his ssn.  I do ours online myself.  If you are taking yours to someone, call them, but I can't see any reason they would need his birth certificate.

  • you just need is ssn. any program you use or if you take them to somewhere it will automatically decline or accept a dependents ssn.
  • Thanks for the info!
  • yep. just his ssn.

    yay for child tax credit!

I did our taxes over the weekend and saw the tax credit. Can you imagine how much the Duggars get back? Crazy!

  • They don't get anything back. If you make more than $100,000 you lose your credit. Sorry duggars! Perhaps at some point, before the were famous, they made less than $100,000 and got a lot back, but those days are over.

They probably did lose it but it depends how much they make, they don't automatically lose it if they make over 100K.

The child tax credit is reduced by $50 for every $1,000 that your adjusted gross income (AGI) exceeds these amounts:

      - Married filing jointly - $110,000
      - Single, head of household or qualifying widow(er) - $75,000

      - Married filing separately - $55,000
