Is it morbid that I think this way?
I don't collect anything and I dont like clutter b/c of the off chance or when I pass away my family has to divvy up/go thru all my belongings.
Reason for the post is: My mom called me in tears today b/c she was going thru some of my grandma's things. She said "She just has so much crap." Now I am pretty sure the tears were more so b/c she missed my grandma and it will be 5 months on Weds....but still. I never want to put anything thru that.

My parents are starting to do this with their house, they have been saving all this stuff thinking someone is going to want it someday and are now realizing it's all going to get tossed if something should happen to them and they don't want to burden us with the chore of going through everything. I hate clutter and toss stuff all of the time, but I just do it to get rid of clutter and clear out space.
DH's Grandma was a major pack rat. In her will she stated a few people got 1 personal item and everything else was to go to auction. It's going to take those auction people a LONG time to sort through that place, her entire attic was filled to capacity along with every closet and unused space in the house.
This is how B's aunt is. Her entire house is filled with crap, nickknats and salt and pepper shakers. I give it another 5 years and all that will be left is a path from the back door to her chair.
I think there's a fine line between 'stuff' and 'crap'.
My family (and I) definitely have pack-rat genes. We all have plenty of 'stuff' that is good to keep and I wouldn't mind going through -- photos, souvenirs, school papers, interesting collections, etc. but it's the 'crap' (junky stuff like used/out of date toiletries, broken/damaged things, super old documents/files, etc.) that would be frustrating to have to sort.
If that even makes sense?! Haha
