Some news on me (long)

No, not "that" news, although it's related.

You all know that DH and I have been TTC since the honeymoon, and even though we've timed things perfectly almost every single month we haven't had any luck. The recommendation is to see a fertility specialist once you've been trying a year, or 6 months if you're over 35. Well, I'm 37 and Type A, so I was at the RE (reproductive endocrinologist, aka fertility specialist) at 6 months on the dot. For the last 4 months we've both been undergoing tons of tests and our lives have been dominated by doctor's appointments. I had to see an endocrinologist because bloodwork revealed that my thyroid is underactive, and DH had to go to a urologist a few times for issues they identified with him.

The gist of it is that other than my thyroid issue, which is easily managed with Synthroid, everything with me is great, especially for my age. DH's tests didn't come out as well though and it looks like we are pretty unlikely to get pregnant on our own at this point.  Fortunately his diagnosis isn't that bad (especially considering some things I'm seeing on the IF boards) and can easily be resolved - if we do IVF.

So, after a consult we had with our RE a couple days ago, it looks like we are officially IVF-bound.  The RE thinks we have a great chance of being successful and fortunately I have pretty good insurance coverage for the procedure. We're looking at doing it in April/May so that it doesn't interfere with the vacation we have planned for the end of March.

DH and I decided that we are going to live it up for the next two months.  I'm tossing my OPKs and green tea and we're just going to enjoy being married without TTC, which we've never been able to do. I am super excited and hopeful, and in a way I feel like a giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It helps that DH's best friend and his FI just went through IVF (they're now 7 weeks pregnant!), so DH has someone to talk to through this process.

As we get closer you'll definitely be getting some vibes requests from me, we're going to need all the help we can get!

  • I'm glad to hear things are progressing for you guys, and my bro and SIL had my cute nephew with IVF. She's a type A personality and wasn't seemingly able to relax; after leaving her job (which of course you probably don't want to do) and IVF she got pregnant. My point is just make sure you relax, relieve as much pressure from yourself as possible because that'll make a diff.

     Go uterus!! :-)

  • I'm so glad that you guys now have a set direction that you are going with for this journey! I know that when you are TTC, and it doesn't seem to be working, it can be very stressful on a marriage. This is why Jeff and I (more I) have decided that we are just going to go with the flow until August. We are still really young (Jeff - 27, Me - 25), so we aren't going to do anything to not get pregnant, but we aren't going to do anything special TO get pregnant. I just need the normal "us" time for a while again! : ) Best of luck to you guys!!!
