So I stayed home yesterday from work because I was not feeling well. I dropped off my lesson plans early since I had nothing made up for a substitute and saw the speech teacher's husband. No biggie.
Last night I was checking out facebook and another teacher in my building mentioned that she was not feeling well. The speech teacher's husband made this comment on her status:
Speech Teacher's Husband: Is this a union meeting induced sickness? I feel sick that education is such a low priority.
I was upset by that because is that we he really thinks about the school/education system two of his sons are in? Plus, he saw me that morning and found out I was not at school due to calling in sick so I am now wondering if his opinion of me dropped really low (which I know shouldn't matter, but it bothers me because I rarely call in sick).
Fast forward to today and I again called in sick. I am feeling a little bit better. Pretty much the same as Monday (I did work on Monday), but by the end of the day was miserable so I felt it was best to take today off and actually rest up. I am worried that if the speech teacher's husband feels this way how does the rest of the community feel about our school district?
If this was you, what would you think about that comment?
On a side-note I do want to let you know that this is not in fact a union induced sickness just in case some of you were wondering.

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermthis is always the case....people who dont work in education usually *** all over it....the vacations, how "easy" it is....everything...
its freakin hard! they've never had 15-25 kids in a classroom, trying to keep all their attention, and giving them the education they need to be productive in the world...AND not catch all of their germs!!!
You would think that the husband of someone who WORKS there....would be alittle more freakin compassionate and not make such bad taste humor jokes.....
I'd be pissed but honestly? i hear this all the time and im not even working at a school at the moment...
what if you had gotten his kids sick? *eyeroll* it would have been a different story if johnny came home with the flu and said "mrs h was soooo sick yesterday"
PS. Glad you're feeling better

My mom runs her career (also a teacher) like you're running yours - only take off when absolutely necessary. You didn't want to get the kids sick (wise decision!), so you stayed home. Being a responsible teacher, you dropped off lesson plans for the sub. If the schmuck doesn't like how the teachers are in his district, maybe he should take his kids out and home school them, so that he only has himself to blame if they're screwed up.
I hate the way America views teachers now adays. Most of you put your heart and soul into your profession, and the parents and rest of society look past the lazy @ss kids and their lack of motivation in order to blame the teacher (who OBVIOUSLY isn't killing her/himself like they should!) End rant.
No, you've done nothing wrong. Glad you're feeling better!
Thank you for your thoughts ladies
) I appreciate it!
And good news...so far I am feeling well enough to go in tomorrow! Yay!
Thanks for this! At least some non-teachers recognize that we work our a$$es off everyday for lazy a$$ kids.
