Baby Shower gift ideas...

Ok Ladies I need some ideas/help

My only brother and his wife are having their 1st baby. I am the Godmother and thrilled beyond words.

I need some ideas on a shower gift. She is registered and all that but I was thinking something more personal?!?

Something different?

All thoughts and suggestions are welcome J

What was the best shower gift you received?  Was there a special one that really touched you?!?!

Help, I am planning a baby shower, a surprise 21st for Courtney and an 18th Birthday party for my Stepson Mat. I am running out of creativity !!

Re: Baby Shower gift ideas...

  • How about some kind of carrier?! I WISH someone had gotten me one!

Depending on how much you want to spend....you could get a Moby wrap, Ring Sling, Mei Tai, Beco, or Ergo.

Moby or  Ring Sling are great for newborns, but a Moby cannot be used as long as all the others. The last 4 that I listed can be used from newborn-toddler (usually 30 or so pounds). I'd really like a Beco. They are so pretty :)

How about a wicked cute pair of baby shoes?! I just ordered Liza some from Etsy and they are stunning! I bought from Etsy seller Bobka.

If she is telling the baby's name, my cousin makes embroided things. I loved opening her gift to me-a onsie set and a tote bag with Liza's name (I think you can see it on her website). It just seemed so special to have something with her name on it.

Hope that helps get your creative juices running! LOL

  • My sister bought Shannon a bookshelf that looks like a douse (and can be used as a dollhouse down the line), and the start of her children's library... You can see a picture of it in this collage -- http://i31.tinypic.com/2uh4x39.jpg -- Then for her baptism, she gave Shannon a matching toy box.

My grandmother knitted the most beautiful sweater sets.

Among other things, my mother gave me my old rocking horse (that she and my father had built), along with my favorite doll from when I was a child.

  • I really like the Toy Box idea, the only thing is they are not going to find out what they are having :( so I colors night be a little hard. And I could not put a name on it !

We are going the books as a card thing for the shower, and her mother is getting a book shelf I think. I am going to actually email her on that right now !!!

  • The gifts I loved the most:

    - I got two or three home made blankets - knit, crocheted, etc. that I just TREASURE the heck out of.  My cousin sewed a blanket to match the colors of G's room and it's just beautiful and I'll always remember it.  I'm so jealous she can do that - she sent a blanket at Christmas made from the remnants of my Grandpa's jeans (as patches) and it's just so special.

    - Kits to do the hand/feet impressions - Bellani does this salt march pottery thing that I kind of wish I had done, but the simple kits are nice too - I especially lvoe the one my daycare provider did for us that is the plaster type stuff - she said it's a crayola kit.  She did it when G was 5 months and I still look at it all the time.

    - Baby book - I love G's baby book to record all of her firsts in.

    - Shutterfly gift cards & picture frames - So they can order photos and display them.

    - My dad gave me the books I had as a child for Gianna.  Really nice and thoughtful.

  • I gave a close friend a gift cert for a professional photographer.  She loved it so much that she did the same for me at my shower.  She said that she treasures the pics of her newborn, as do I.

She got mine for Heidi Hope.  I had to put more money towards it, but she knew that I wouldn't mind.

  • I love the photographer idea! Quality newborn photos are expensive so that would have been a wonderful gift!

How about mom & baby classes? like yoga or a new mom's group?

  • My favorite gift was my gift cert for Amy Ro. :)

I also got a gift where a bunch of little baby clothes were clothespinned to a rope and all tucked into a laundry basket. So I pulled out the first item and then all followed behind it so it kept going and going. It was a cute way to buy a bunch of clothes for someone.

The best gift I ever saw someone else get was a year of maid service! I would have LOVED that!

I also saw where someone put together a calendar for the mom to be and had friends and family sign up to make/bring dinner to the new family each day. She was havng twins so I know she really really appreciated the help!

  • I went to a shower once that in addition to the gift you brought you were asked to bring a childrens book and write a special note in it to the baby.

  • I would go for practical stuff that every new mum needs regardles of their taste like nappy wash service or a big box of disposables, flannels, towells, bunny rugs, muslin wraps, gift voucher for baby target or somewhere similar, cd of lullabies etc...

There are so many cute things out there, these are just few.. I can think that it would pretty much suit anyone and it doesn't really matter if you double up. I would have been more than happy with any of these things!! The great one about buying baby stuff is that you can get gorgeous stuff at a great price! I Hope that helps you...
