Anyone else do their Taxes yet?

We were hoping for a big refund.  Only getting 1k.  This is after us claimed Married, but filed single.  This is our first full year with our mortgage, so I was hoping for WAY more.

Ugh-Uncle Sam.  How is the US in such debt yet I give them all my money??

Re: Anyone else do their Taxes yet?

  • I gave all of mine to my accountant, but haven't heard anything yet.

I'm scared to death that we're going to have to pay.

  • We've given a lot of tax forms to the accountant but haven't started. We are going to owe now that DH is self-employed (and his part time job doesn't take out taxes), it's just a matter of how much. No clue. Luckily it won't affect our personal finances, just money out of the farm account.

  • We did ours a few weeks ago and we're getting a decent refund, but supposedly you don't want a big refund. It's better to have the money in your paycheck and in your bank earning interest all year than in the governments. Anyhow, I still love a good refund :) Our mortgage hasn't done us too well the past 2 years either.

  • That's a tax thing that you get that we don't - writing off mortgage interest.  Anyway, I don't even have all my documentation yet.

  • We did ours a few weeks ago, already got the deposit in our bank account. We got a pretty good refund (though not as good as last year), just about $100 less than our preliminary estimate of what we'll owe the hospital after insurance, though I'm sure we'll have to pay some more after the baby's born. So, it's already spent, I just haven't yet written the check yet.

  • With DH on unemployment for 5 months, we ended up owing. But only about $200 which isn't so bad.
  • I need to provide everything to our accountant.

I am also petrified of us owing. We got a good amount last year, even w/ H collecting UE for most of 2009.

But now that we're both making more money...I am scared we'll owe.

  • I started filing - still missing a freaking W-2 but estimated - and we'll owe to the state but get a decent refund back. I'm irritated we owe to the state...first time ever.

  • our meeting is tonight. first year we're not doing them ourselves, but with buying the house and the scentsy business we figured we needed a professional, lol. just hoping we don't owe anything to the fed. looks like we'll definitely owe local bc DH's work screwed things up - ugh!

This is true.  Just had our appointment, we owe a small amount to state but are getting a decent refund.  I'm excited for next year when we get to claim our little burrito! Smile

  • My accountant just called! We're getting back $5700!

I realize that this is a measly amount compared to what I paid, and I also realize that the ideal goal it to break even and get the money in your paycheck.

HOWEVER. I'm terrible at putting money away, and honestly, I just wouldn't do it. I love my tax returns every year.
