Wanna help me with some decorating ideas? PIP

We put an offer in on a house!  If all goes well we should be moving in around the end of March.  (Fingers crossed)

This is would be the future nursery, problem is I do not like the wall colors.  They are too cutesy, too pastel for me.  Mainly I don't like the shade of blue, it is too bright.  I will be around 26 weeks when we move, and I cannot see myself climbing up and down a ladder to paint the blue half.  (I can't believe they painted the vaulted ceilings that color too!)  Preferably I don't want to paint anything, but if I have to I will pain the lower half.

Any ideas floating around out there? Here is what I am thinking so far.  Option one, I just suck it up.  Option 2, paint the lower half a white or cream (with matching trim) and them just decorate the room in different shades of blue.

Any and all ideas are welcome.

  • Hmm...if it were me I would suck it up and repaint, especially that blue ceiling.  Yikes.  It'll take a week at the most, and you'll be glad you (or your H) did it.  I'm also not a fan of cutesy baby rooms, so those colors would really bother me.  I would probably do a pretty grey/brown color on the bottom, and a cream on top, or a lighter grey on top and accent the room with some brighter colors.

  • Maybe something like this:

  • I like the concept of the scheme in this room too (obviously minus the pink stuff).  Dark on top and light on the bottom.  I really like dark brown in kids rooms/nursery.

  • What about painting the lower half a darker (navy?) blue?  I think that would take away a lot of the cutesiness of the room without requiring your to paint everything.

I don't think I'd be willing to tackle the ceiling unless I really hated it.

  • Personally, I would leave it; I don't think it's THAT bad. But if you really hate it, I'd get your husband to repaint it. You're growing a baby, you don't need to be climbing up on ladders and painting ceilings.

  • I am with Kasa - a darker blue or even a medium gray on bottom.  It would help it look less baby and more of a room a boy could grow into. Have fun!
  • I would see if I could find some cloud wall decals and put them on the ceiling and then paint the walls. I however have never had to decorate a nursery and am probably a large dork.
  • I agree with a darker blue. Maybe you can do like a light brown (like a kakhi color) and blue

  • Thanks guys.  I cut a deal with H last night, if he will paint the upper half and ceiling of the room; I will let him buy a paint sprayer.  He will be at the house tonight for the inspection and said he will inspect the paint and see what he thinks.  The thing is once we move he'll be working nonstop for a while (so he has more time off when the baby comes) and I hate to ask him to paint in what little spare time he has.  But there is just no way I am going to be able to paint that room.

While it isn't my style it isn't that horrible (the other bedroom is horrible, bright bright pink).  So I guess we'll see.  I was just hoping that by some magic with the right bedding and accessories I could tone down the color.

I agree, I would paint the bottom a darker bluish shade.  No really, I would.  (Did.)

Actually, the more I look at the picture the more I think a navy blue on the bottom would look great.

It would be cute to do a nautical theme with bright orange accents.

  • D&M~  hehe I saw T's room while perusing the paint bio for ideas.  It is where I got the idea to do a blue theme.  But I just think the shade of the blue is wrong in this room, too bright or something.

I think I am just going to have to wait till we move and I can sit in the room with paint samples and see what works.

  • I would definitely paint that ceiling, but the existing blue doesn't bother me, I like bright :)

My spare bedroom has white wainscoting on the bottom and navy blue on the top.  I love it, but have NO idea what color furniture to put in there. I love blue bedrooms!
