I'm not the praying kind, but... HUGE T&P needed!!!

I hate logging onto Facebook and seeing 100 different status updates that all say, "Praying the Peery family!" or "Keep Chad Peery in your prayers!"  You just know it's going to be bad.

That's what happened to me just a few minutes ago.  I finally tracked down what had happened.  Chad Peery was a schoolmate of mine from 5th - 12th grades.  We went to small private catholic schools, so we were all very close.

This is what his brother had on his wall.  It's horrible.  I just want to cry.

Thank you all for your prayers!! We will continue to need them in the hours, days, & weeks to come! Chad (an OKC police officer) was off duty & having dinner with my dad when a fight broke out at a bar/restaurant on his usual patrol area. The bartender asked him for help. He was in the process of getting the 4 guys out the door when 2 of them jumped him. He is in critical condition with a severe spinal cord injury & broken neck & in ICU now. It is a total pray & wait moment for at least the next 48hrs before they can reassess the damage. The okc news is updating the story, but some of the facts are off. My family & I sincerely appreciate your prayers & support in these trying times!! Please continue to Chad, his wife, & 4 young kids in your prayers as they will ALL be needed!! A plus- thx to the great work of the OCPD, all 4 have been arrested!

And here's the local news story.

  • Well, I am the praying kind and he and his family will certainly be in my prayers.  What an awful story!  I'm glad that caught these animals, but they were charged with "maiming"?!?  I mean REALLY?  I'm not sure what all that entails, but how about assault or attempted murder?  Well, he is blessed to be alive and to be surrounded by so many praying people.

  • Thanks everyone.  It's just horrible.

And, it's scary that it happened where it did.  It's not like they were in a dive bar or something.  You know?

And his poor dad, who had to see that happen!  It just makes me sick to my stomach.

  • How awful! and scary!! I'll definitely keep him in my prayers!!
  • How terrible.  This shouldn't happen to anyone, but I have a soft spot for emergency services people.  Certainly in my thoughts.

  • How awful!   I hope he recovers quickly, and with no lasting effects. That poor family; I can't even imagine what they're going through.

I have friends who are cops - you always worry about them getting hurt while on duty, but somehow the fact that this happened while he was off duty and just trying to enjoy a dinner out with his dad makes it a thousand times worse.

  • I'll definitely send a few up! That's terrible, but I'm glad they were able to arrest the trouble makers.
