Need to vent/ frustrated...

So I just had to share my frustrations with people who understand the joys of being a newlywed!

So we have been planning to buy house within the next six months. (We were prepared to be in a purchased home when our lease is up.) Well things suddenly went awry. We had planned to use our VA loan, since DH is prior military. So we called the bank to get our pre-approval and SURPRISE! we qualify for about $80,000 less than we were asking for. My husband is a student and receives a housing allowance from the gov't...but since it's not taxable, it can't be counted as income. So the bank is considering him unemployed!  They think we are living off of yours truly's income solely. Plus they said our debt to income ratio is too high. UGH! So now we wait. 1 maybe 2 more years :/

I feel like we need to buy a house before we have kids and so this has just seriously thrown a wrench into my plan! Sometimes life is just SO frustrating...

(Thanks for letting me vent!)

Re: Need to vent/ frustrated...

  • I totally feel your pain...FI is in a residency and although has loans, grants and side jobs doesn't have proof of income. So we'll just rent for now!..... It sucks!... Goodluck!
  • I know how you feel. We are in a similar boat with me still being in school and after I graduate with our student loans it will be a while before we own our own home. It's frustrating at times.
  • I know I'm late on this but I haven't been on in a few days.  I'm sorry you are going through this.  I know how you feel.  I had the "perfect plan" that we would buy a house in May when our lease was up and then we'd try for babies in July and *POOF* I got laid off.  On the bright side, you can continue to save up money for a nicer home or renovations/ fabulous furniture that you might have otherwise had to wait on if you bought now.  Plus, I think the market is going to continue to drop some more before there are any improvements so maybe you will get a better price by waiting a year?  (this is the crapola I've been telling myself at least ;P)
