Nervous
At 9:01pm PT this evening my DH is a CFL Free Agent (his choice). We have a feeling as to what team he is going to sign with, but I am still really nervous. I hope today goes by fast, it's already hard to concentrate at work. It has been a long few months of anticipation, I'm praying that everything goes smoothly!

Will he sign with a new team tonight or does he just get released and signing to another team will happen over the next few days/weeks?

He will most likely sign tonight, but it all depends on logistics. But yes, at 9:01 pm his current contract expires and he is released. I'll text you later.

I don't know if there is any new revelations. Em didn't text me last night and when I did a quick Google search, there are things on message boards saying he signed with another team but no concrete news articles.

Wow, what a night I had! An Edmonton paper wrote an article yesterday saying that DH was testing free agency and signing with an Eastern team to be closer to family (not true). This created a massive wave of phone calls and fan frenzy on message boards! Once Free Agency opened late last night DH received an offer from the Calgary Stampeders, he was approached by other teams including Edmonton but Calgary was definitely the best option for him. He signed right away last night and it was officially announced about 30 minutes ago by the Stamps. The Stamps are arch rivals of the Eskimos (3 hours apart, same province), so this will definitely stir up some interesting opinions in Edmonton.
They signed DH as a LB/LS they already have a veteran long-snapper so they hope to utilize him more as a linebacker and special teams player. I am so relieved, I knew he would sign somewhere right away but it's nice knowing it is all done! Thanks for all of the messages and support.

This is what I had read. I was confused but then again obviously have no idea about anything so took what posters said with a grain of salt. Glad he signed with the team that is best for him! Is moving to a more linebacker position something he is looking to do or would he want to stay special teams? Also, aren't the Stamps the team that you guys played three times last year and they destroyed the Eskimos in one (or two) of the games? I can't remember offhand.

Random question... has anyone on your local (or former local, now) recognized him as being a CFL player?
He is a versatile player, so I think he is looking forward to being used in whatever way can benefit the team. I think he still wants to long-snap, just because it is such a unique skill but we'll see what happens come training camp. Yes the stamps beat us by 50+ points twice last year, they should have been in the Grey Cup but lost in the Western Finals. This was obviously appealing as they should be a solid team again this year.
No, I don't post on the Canadian local board. He did get recognized at a Rugby tournament we went to last weekend, there was a whole group of guys from Canada that he ran into in the bathroom. He ended up talking to them for like an hour.
