Wedding Cake Tasting Question

Ok.....as some of y'all know...I do cakes.

I have only been to two cake tastings for wedding cakes so I started doing my own similar to those experiences.

Do you remember how many different flavors you sampled at your tasting? I sampled 3 flavors for my wedding.

I rec'd an email from a couple last night. They want to sample 8 cake flavors, 3 fillings and 3 icings. Does that seem extreme to y'all?

Re: Wedding Cake Tasting Question

  • I didn't sample cakes for my wedding (destination) but yes I think that is excessive.  I can't even think of 8 different flavors of cake!  I think 3 cake flavors, and 2-3 each of fillings and icings would be appropriate.

  • I didn't even do a tasting...

I would think having 3 of her top options is reasonable... Anything else I would think is going to cost her more $ because that's a lot more time and energy from you.

  • Yes, I think 8 is excessive. offer her 3 maybe 4.
  • I think we tasted 3 with maybe 2 or 3 types of icing.  I think 8 seems extreme.  The ladies that did ours brought little mini cakes so 8 of those would be like an entire cake!

  • Thanks ladies! I was worried I was just being cheap. :)

Of course, some of the flavors she picked were expensive ones (margarita and pina colada that have alcohol in them).

I do cupcakes for tastings but the smallest batch of cupcakes I make are a dozen....so 8 would be A LOT!

Ditto, word for word! Eight flavors seems REALLY excessive to me.
