I work at a great company, and have a wonderful boss. We get along very well, and have met families, discusssd some personal things, etc. She is very professional though, so we'll both share with each other, but for the most part keep it professional.
DH and I started attending counseling together for some maintenance issues on arguing and communicating. We found a counselor we really like, however, his hours are only during my work hours of 9-5 (DH has a flexible job with very flexible hours). I am an hourly employee, so it's always fine with my boss for me to come in early, and leave early. So, we've met with the counselor twice - both times on Friday at 4:00pm. This timing works perfect for my husband, it's good for me since I can use the flexible hours to my advantage, and works while our DS is still in daycare, as we don't have anyone very close to us (location wise) to watch him during work hours.
Anyway, the last 2 weeks, I told my boss I had a doc appt for myself one time, and a doc appt for DS the other time. Since DH and I have another appt with the counselor on Friday, I am wondering if I should tell my boss what's really going on. I can't keep making up excuses for why I'm coming in and leaving early every Friday, and she does want to be kept in the loop if our hours deviate from normal. I don't know how long DH and I will continue going to the counselor either - I think a few more times at least is safe to assume.
Should I talk to my boss about what's going on? WDYT?
Re: Talk to boss about weekly counseling appts?
P.S. Good for you for seeking counseling, it's a great idea for a little extra help:)
Yes and no.
I'd tell your boss that you have a recurring doctor's appointment every Friday, with a doctor who's only available 9-5. I'd state that this would be a recurring appointment for the foreseeable future, and you want to know if you can adjust your hours to come in early on Fridays and leave early.
I wouldn't go into what kind of doctor you're seeing, or for what. It's frankly none of anyone's business.

Thanks everyone! Great advice. I went to talk to my boss today about it, and told her exactly what Dr. Loretta suggested - I have an ongoing doc appt on Fridays, as he only accepts appts during the week from 9-5, and could I switch my hours on Fridays for the time being?
She said of course, and asked if everything was ok - I said yes with a smile, and that was that. Big relief knowing I don't have to continue making up excuses.
Of course, she probably thinks I am pregnant again
Thanks again...
