Rawr rawr rawr

I'm seriously about to quit my job. And throw my work computer in the toilet.

We got paid today, and today was the first paycheck that reflected my raise (negotiated on 12/24 - yea, we won't even start with that one). My pay was increased, but it reflects a yearly salary $2500 less than what was originally negotiated.

So I email paycheck lady and ask what's up. She says that the lesser salary was the number she was given by now-deceased-CEO. WTF!?!?! Since that was a verbal negotiation, I really don't have anything in writing, and was never given anything in writing to prove this. My salary is $2500 more than what he originally offered though. So I don't know where this arbitrary number came from, but I would have liked to have been informed sometime in the 2 months since we originally agreed on the higher number!

I emailed new CEO with my dilemma, and hopefully will hear back soon. If she sticks to the lesser number, do you think I should ask for an extra week of paid vacation to use in my maternity leave? This is a bunch of BS.

*I know in the grand scheme of things, that is only like $50 more on my paycheck but hey - that's still money.

  • Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what a terrible surprise. That blows so hard that you don't have ANYTHING in writing.

On the bright side, at least you aren't commuting to work anymore, so you won't have that expense.

  • That sucks, Ali....but Melissa is right. At LEAST you don't have the $120 a week on gas to contend with now.

You need to get something out of this.  Whether it's the original amount of money you were supposed to get, or extra PTO, get something, and don't stop asking people about it until you do.

I like the way you think. Plus I think that's only fair. I wasn't notified of this change and never agreed to it, so I feel like I'm being screwed over. DH brought up the savings from working from home as well, but that's not why I got this raise. I got a raise because I got a promotion. So I feel it's only fair that I get paid what we agreed upon.

Oh, ITA with you, I was just thinking that it's a sticky situation with nothing in writing. The new CEO sounds very reasonable though, so hopefully things work out! Let us know!

Make sure you stress this to the powers that be as you continue the negotiating. I agree with Meghaan that you need to keep pushing for something to make up for that difference. GL!

  • So technically you got a pay cut?

F*ck that, you at the very least need to get your pay exactly where it was at.

No, it's still $7500 more than what I was making prior to my negotiations. But when promised a $10K raise, that's kind of what I was hoping for! I got an email back from new CEO saying that she was going to be looking at everyone's salaries tomorrow since there seems to be large discrepancies in pay even for people doing the same job. I wanted to email her back and say "well that's great, but I was promised X and my pay shouldn't have anything to do with what Bob, Sue and Sally make. It's an individual thing, not a group effort!"

We'll see what happens I guess.

That kinds of makes you wonder what the hell deceased CEO had going on if it's jacked up for a lot of people.

I feel kind of bad for her, she had to come into this shitstorm immediately after losing her father (right?). She has all kinds of stuff that looks strange, valued employees are mad about stuff that she didn't do...it has be intensely stressful.
