HTW - Toilet seat cover up or down?

With all of the extra guests we've had recently, I've noticed a trend.  H and I always put the toilet seat cover down before we flush, we both are kinda germa-phobes about the idea of those gross particles flying all over the room if we don't.  However, his mom and brother (who apparently needs to be at our house 24/7 with his mom) do not.  Ick.

So, what do you do?

In case you're wondering why I'm on the boards more, I hide out in the computer room while pumping....turns out this stupid machine has been and will be my saving grace to get quiet time over the next 4 days!! Wink

Re: HTW - Toilet seat cover up or down?

  • I like seat down.  DH usually leaves it seat up.  I hate it.

  • I have trained H to put seat down.

I HATE when men don't even put the butt part down. That irks the LIFE out of me.

I very much dislike when people don't put the seat down in our house. Leave it how you found it, that's what I say!

  • We rarely ever close it because the dog drinks out of the toilets.

We have a sonicare toothbrush that has a UV Sanitizer on it, that give me piece of mind. Wink

    LOVING that you're hiding/pumping/nesting.

    Hehehehe

Make an excuse about the dog not bein able to drink out of the toilet and the lid must be closed.

  • Definitely down. I know stuff flies around when you flush, and I don't want that in my bathroom. That room is dirty enough without added poop particles!

I agree with Jackie, it drives me bonkers when people don't put the seat down in our house. What is so hard about leaving things the way you found it? Apparently these people were not girl scouts - isn't that one of the cardinal rules?

  • I also trained E to put the lid down. With 3 cats and a dog, I don't want anybody going swimming.
  • Seat cover down.  DH usually does this, but every so often I find the seat in guest bathroom up.  DH claims it keeps the toilet from getting mildewy, since we rarely use it.

I'm completely grossed out about the thought of germs flying around the room when you flush.  I told DH about that, and I don't think he believed me, and then someone on tv said it, and I guess that convinced him.

  • Seat Cover up usually always unless I have just cleaned it...  Hmmm...  Maybe I should start leaving it down....

  • Definitely down.  Germ particles, and it grosses me out when dogs drink out of the toilet then walk around with toilet drool beards, so I prevent that!
  • Down. The cats are out of control. I hate walking into the bathroom to find water all over the place. I inform people who visit they must put the seat down.

I tend to put the seat down at other people's houses out of habit.

My cats are like this too! On the rare occasion that the seat is up while I'm in the bathroom (I throw my cotton balls in the toilet when I take my makeup off at night, then flush them when I go to the bathroom. TMI?) they both think it's the most amazing thing and decide to swim in it. Gross!

  • I didn't think about the germs that much, until Nate started splashing in the toilet water. He loves watching it flush and has tried to catch the toilet paper as it swirls around. I put the seat down even before I've stood up all the way to keep his hands out of it!
