I'm currently on Ortho-Tricyclen and have zero sex drive because of it - I'm considering switching forms of birth control and I'm wondering...
- What type of birth control are you on?
- Would you recommend it?
- Has it effected your sex drive?
Thanks in advance ladies!!
Re: Birth Control Survey
I'm learning the FAM method (fertility awareness method) from the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. We are currently using condoms while we both learn about it and get the hang of charting my cycles.
I would recommend it - no hormones, no devices, no side effects and best of all - you get to learn all about how your body works.
1) I was on ortho before hubby & I were married for 4+ years (bc bad cycle).
2) I'm not on Quasanse bc ortho was not strong enough to stop my period during the 'off times'.... i was getting it almost 2/3 the time before i switched
3)I would never ever say othro-tricyclen affected my sex drive. It is the lowest hormones levels I think you can have for a BCP yet I never felt much fluctuation.... I'm now on Quasense which is slightly above the hormone levels of Ortho & although it took my sensitive system a while to get used to, I've been happy w/it for2+years & will probably stay w.it until hubby & I TTC.
Paragard IUD (I don't have kids)
Yes, I would recommend it if you don't mind heavy bleeding for a day or two and a day maybe two of bad cramps every month
Doesn't effect my sex drive as it's non hormonal but then again neither did BCP's.The only reason I went of BCP's was because I had really bad mood swings due to the hormones.

FAM and we couldn't be happier
I had been on Ortho -tricylen and then Nuva Ring and the hormonal side effects were killing me. About two weeks after going off hormonal birth control my sex drive shot through the roof. I would definitely look into FAM and reading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.
- What type of birth control are you on? FAM and condoms. Love it. My periods are all over the place so we're never sans condom, but it's nice that I know my body better now.
- Would you recommend it? Yep.
- Has it effected your sex drive? Not a bit.
I tried Yaz, the Patch and Ortho Tri Cyclin but I just had 14-17 day long periods. Plus the other medication I'm on make any kind of hormonal bc unable to prevent pregnancies so we were just throwing money away in the end.I was on Yaz for several years. Then I had a rare, serious side effective than caused unsafe increases in my potassium, so I had to stop suddenly. Then we used FAM for several months.
I really enjoyed FAM. I'm separating from XH now, so it doesn't matter, but I felt good once all the hormones were out of my system.
I don't feel like it had much of an effect on my sex drive. I don't think HBC had a huge impact either
(1) Ocella (generic of Yasmin)
(2) Overall? I love it but just recently am having migraines during my off week and am wondering if it's related to my monthly cycle.... Not sure if it is related to the Ocella or not.
(3) Not in the least! I have been on the generic of the OTC before and had gained weight as a side effect and opted off it.
Somebody posted about Ortho Tri Cyc being one of the lowest in hormones... there is one called "Ortho Try Cyclen Lo" which is the same thing as the OTC but has lower strengths and no generic avaliable at this time.
1. What type: Ortho Cyclen. It's similar to Ortho Tricyclen but has a steady dose of hormones for the whole pack. I can take them back to back and skip periods.
2. Would you recommend it? Definitely. It's the best I've tried. The only side effects: Bigger boobs and slightly more likely to cry if I see a sad news story. The first one isn't even really bad
3. Yes, it did effect my sex drive for the better. I currently take a medicine that lowers my sex drive and makes it difficult for me to climax. Since starting this pill, it's been so much easier to get in the mood.
Seasonique
Yes I love it! Only get my period every 3 months which makes it totally awesome.
Have had no issues with it affection my sex drive.
1) I am on the generic brand of Yaz.
2) Yes. No negative side effects...
3)No, I have a sex drive and sometimes really crave it.
I have PMDD so I first started Yaz and it really affected my sex drive, but my emotions were out of control. Somehow the pharmacy switched to the generic brand of Yaz, and ever since it has done wonders, and it still has control of my PMDD.
