If you work hourly do you clock in when you get to work or when you are scheduled to work (i.e. if you are scheduled to work 4:30 but show up at 4:15)?
I am a nanny and I tend to show up early to make sure I'm not late. Yesterday I got to work at 4:15 and today I just noticed my employer changed by time sheet to 4:30. Its not a big deal but I find it a bit annoying particularly when I found out yesterday the LO's aunt and G-ma were coming over so my work hours were short by an hour. I don't make a lot but we are trying to put all my earnings into savings for a new car, so losing essentially an hour and 15 minutes out of my earnings kind of hurts. If I am ever late I make sure to record it so I don't really understand why showing up early isn't treated the same.
Re: Work related question/gripe
When I worked hourly you could only clock in 5 minutes early although I showed up early all the time. Every once in awhile they would ask me to clock in early, but I did get paid for that time. Hope that helps!
For our work, you start getting paid when you are scheduled (though if you're late, you don't get paid obviously). I've had to send people home early, and they want to stay for the hours, but if I don't need them anymore there is no reason to pay them. I tell them they can stay if they want, but they won't get paid (never works lol)
So I guess I look at it through the employers eyes.
I've been at my job for 14 years now and we just started having to clock in last April (it used to all be just on paper, on the honor system). And people just clock in whenever the get there, mostly so they don't forget. We don't get paid overtime or anything, so it's not like it really matters unless we're late.
The guy who works for me, carpools with his dad and step-mom and so he gets to work usually 45 minutes later or more. He always clocks in when he gets there, but he doesn't get paid for those extra minutes because he's not actually working yet.
Missing our little turkey.
