Pregnant Moms, come on in!!

How are you ladies feeling? Any cravings, symptoms? Have you (or will you) found out whether you're having a boy or a girl? Do you have any names picked out? EDD adjustment? Feel free to post it all here, and if you're so inclined,PIP those belly pics!

I think all of you are now in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters... CONGRATULATIONS! Well, that is... unless there are new BFPs and therefore names to add to the list!

In another couple of weeks, we'll start seeing if there are any Blizzard babies from the late December storms we had... crazy, huh?!

Re: Pregnant Moms, come on in!!

So this was me at almost 12 weeks, last week.  I feel really good, I have a hard time remembering I'm even pregnant.  We will be finding out what we're having in only four more weeks, crazy!  I'd love to hear anyone's experience in teaching #1 about #2.  I think the whole concept is just so abstract to Cassidy at this point.  Maybe it'll be easier once my belly is much bigger?

  • Amy, in terms of teaching Cass about the baby, I didn't get into much with Ben. We would just talk about it a lot, and as my belly got bigger Ben would touch me and say "baby," and later "Maddy" as he learned her name. We were very lucky, he was so great about the transition of becoming a big brother. We made a point to make sure he was always equal to the new baby, no matter what. He got big brother presents from Maddy and us, he got special reading one-on-one time to replace the time when I was nursing Maddy that I couldn't play (although we usually read books while Maddy nursed).

I think you just keep talking to her about the idea, and she'll get it. Show her ultrasound pictures of the baby, etc.

    So exciting!!!!

  • Looking great, Amy!

We started pointing out pictures of babies when we were walking through stores, or when we'd pass a baby in a stroller. She loved looking at babies, and would smile and say "baby!" I'd then say, "Yes, that's a baby. Just like you are going to have a baby brother or sister!"

Shannon went with me to all of my OB appointments, and when they brought in the doppler, I'd tell her we have to listen to the baby. "Can you hear it?" There was one appt where they brought in the portable u/s machine, and Shannon got to see a special "movie" of her baby. I always referred to the baby as HER baby brother or sister.

Once we found out we were going to have a boy, we started using Kyle's name. Your baby brother, Kyle! You're going to be a big sister! We had his ultrasound picture displayed, and she would ask to see Kyle's picture. When I started showing more (she's very inquisitive) she asked me why my belly was growing. I told her that her baby brother was growing inside and getting bigger so that he could be strong enough to come out and see his sister.

When I was in my third trimester, I had Shannon help me to pick out a "friend" for her baby brother. She picked a monkey blanket. She "helped" me to fold her brother's clothes in preparation for his arrival. It was little things, not overwhelming her with anything all at once. We did our best to include her in lots of the activities leading up to her brother's birth, and in the days/weeks/months that followed.

  • Jordan was sorta into dolls, so when she'd mention her baby, I'd say Mumma is having a baby too. You're going to be a big sister and kinda leave it at that. I did call Norah Bug all through my pg, so I said Bug is in my belly and when she had a name, we used that too.

I really didn't go out of my way to get Jordan ready, except when we knew there would be big problems. I showed her pictures on babies in NICUs (including her own pics) and before/after surgeries and we called them 'wire-babies' b/c, well, they had wires. We didn't know what Norah would have/need right away so I didn't want Jordan to be afraid when she saw her since all the pics of babies on tv, in advertising are happy, healthy babies and our baby wasn't going to look like that.

J saw a few u/s and thought they were funny, but would call them a baby. She'd talk to my belly and Norah would ALWAYS react, so she thought that was fun. When Norah was born, she reacted to Jordan as soon as they met - that was really, really cool.

  • I'm still here!!!  Only 16 days to go and Im ready!  LOL!!!  Ive been going for my weekly NST's and so far she is nice and healthy and moving and kicking up  a storm!   also had my growth ultra sound this week and she is about 6 pounds 7 ounces :)  I hope this is true because I was expecting a little chunky princess due to my GD but i have been keeping it under control with diet and insulin which is good.  :)

  • hello there, feeling good still, nothing much to report :)  was 3.5-4cm dilated at my appointment last week and have another one in a few hours, so we'll see what the update is... not that it really means anything, but still.

i have all these little date "goals" i'm trying to achieve -- first, it was making it until last weekend, so we could have our hospital tour; then it was making it until today so i can meet an old co-worker for dinner; then it's making it past this weekend, since we have a few friends passing through town to visit; then it's making it until next wednesday to have a play date with a friend at the science museum; then to my last day of work next friday; and my ultimate goal is to make it until march, since it just sounds like such a warmer birth month than feb, haha!

this little guy is super active though, i feel like he could bust on out any minute, so we'll take each day/hour at a time... hope everyone else is feeling good too, thanks for checking in!

  • Glad everyone is doing great! We had our big ultra today and It's a BOY!

  • hi girls!

overall, i think i am *starting* to feel better. i am now having good days and bad - instead of all bad :) ! i also think i am learning how to (somewhat) mangage the nausea/pukes.

right now i am craving drinks like instant iced tea and lemonade. i also love certain sandwiches with tons of mayo, veggies or salads with globs and globs of ranch dressing... and of course- cereal and potato chips!

we probably wont find out what this baby is. super excited for my next appt, as i will probably be scheduling the big u/s:)

i will try to post a belly pic soon- i def have one! i am at the point where my reg jeans wont get over my thighs ( tried to cram myself in a pair this am -  broke into a sweat, got pissed and tossed them across the room)... but maternity are still a little big. can fit into some of my smaller maternity tops pretty well though!

so glad to hear everyone else is doing great!  i really love to check in. thanks alicia for keeping up with this!

  • No updates, just feeling good for the most part. I'm not a tiny person to start, but now with a real belly, I feel so huge! I can't imagine how big I will be in 3 more months! We're going to the childbirth class at Kent on Saturday, the nursery is almost painted (we have done ceilings/trim/base wall color, but have yet to do the stripes we have planned), and the furniture should be delivered in the next couple weeks. I can't believe how fast time is flying.

  • Hi, ladies! I'm doing well and in my third trimester! I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow.  I've been getting ready bit by bit. We're picking up furniture from storage tomorrow (using my grandparents' old set in our room, moving our set which I've had since I was a kid to the nursery).  When I make the switch and get the rug I ordered in, I can start getting things moving in the nursery.  It's already painted a nice yellow at least.  We toured the ABC this week and I'm excited about trying to deliver there.  I need to switch practices to one with more than one midwife, though, so I've been working on that.  I love my doctor now but figure the chances she'll deliver me are so small that I don't mind switching.

So I feel more pregnant, definitely, but am still feeling pretty good overall! This picture is from 2 weeks ago, I'll take another tomorrow.  I haven't been great about updating my blog, either.  :)
