Extacy - would you take it?

The title of Tisha's post actually reminded me of this...

A few weeks ago, Scot and I caught a show on NatGeo on "everything about extacy".  They interviewed a couple of crazy kids, but what caught my attention was the married couple that used it in a few therapy sessions.  There are actual 'underground' doctors that prescribe these methods, but when I heard this couple's story, I was kind of sold.

The husband had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, only having about a year left.  But the couple's marriage was falling apart, the wife just couldn't handle the cancer/dying issue, and she couldn't get 3 words into a serious conversation with her husband without completely falling apart. They then found a psychologist that recommended extacy sessions.

They video tapped their sessions, and it was so beautiful it almost brought me to tears (that and the wife being interviewed for the NatGeo show being in tears).  Because of the drug, they were able to finally have a conversation about cancer and death without being sad or angry or incomprehensible.  And yet their conversations were still realistic and too the point- they were just super cuddly, lol.   The husband did pass away soon after, but the woman said that those couple extacy sessions  saved the last few months of their marriage.

I know this couple's story is a bit extreme with terminal cancer, but I guess I'm wondering what other people's thoughts were on this therapy method if there is a serious communication issue.

Re: Extacy - would you take it?

  • I guess all of those episodes of the Phil Donahue show really scared me as a teenager, because I still picture the images of the brain scans of people who had taken a lot of ecstasy and it still gets to me.  LMAO  So, I wouldn't personally do it, but if it helps someone else, I guess I don't really have a problem with it.

  • In a case like that, where it was in a controlled environment, actually, I probably would.
  • Every time I scroll past this post I read it in my head like a news reporter.

I wouldn't take it. Granted, I understand the situation that couple was in, and why they did it.

  • Ok so in my early 20's I took it.. more than once. And I liked it, I felt very free and relaxed...

Its funny because this drug  actually something that I  just had a discussion with a few of my mom friends and was amazed at how many people I know have actually done it.
