Got our taxes done tonight

Getting money back from the fed, but still owe the damn state.

At least what we owe the state is down by half over last year.

Re: Got our taxes done tonight

  • That usually happens with us, too.  One of these days I'll get around to doing our taxes.

  • that happened to us this year....we haven't filed yet...maybe this weekend.  Good thing Uncle Sam is giving us back more than we have to give to the good ole state.

  • Ugh, this keeps happening to me as well.  Usually I get about $20 more back from the feds than I owe the state. Whee! :/
  • uh yeah..dh and I were completely blindsided by taxes this year. We thought we had both changed our W-4's so that we would get more back. That combined with the fact that we had a full year of house payments (last year was only partial), we thought we would get way more than last year. Nope we effing owe the state and fed! Apparently because we're married now, dh's job took out less...or something. ugh...

    we're married now

That's how our first year went too, we both filled out our W-4s checking married. Turns out one of us should have been 'married, but withhold a higher single rate' So now mine is.

Then last year we got hit because I was subbing and making so little per paycheck that there were no taxes being taken out, but when you added up all the checks from all the schools it was significant.
