My friend Paul, who's from Ireland, lives in MA. I've never actually met him in person, pretty sad considering how frequently I'm in & around Boston. He's a university researcher/chemist up there. But so we "met" virtually back in about '98, and we've been online friends ever since.
When E & I got engaged, he sent us a model Mustang airplane, like this. He knows I'm into Mustangs (the car) since I used to have one, and he knows Eric's ex-Air Force. So it was pretty fitting.
And when we were going on our honeymoon, it's Paul who hooked us up with his Dubliner brother who works at Trinity college who could get us in during off-hours to see the Book of Kells.
Well, today we got this box from him, out of nowhere. I had to share.
I've known for years that he throws an Oscar night party, but I've never been part of it. This year he decided to add on a virtual version, and sent us an "invitation" and package. The guy's insanely creative & went all out. Makes our crawfish boil look kinda lame by comparison, maybe. Anyway, we opened the box to this drawstring bag:

Inside was this film reel tin:

And in the tin was this invitation:

This letter to us, explaining:

This ballot:

And these VIP passes:

In the bag were also these mints:

These crazy, cheesy shades:

And these awards!

How cool is that? And he's running a FB trivia game during the awards show so everyone's involved.
I really need to hang out with him for real at some point.
Re: AW: I have the coolest, most creative (and kinda crazy) friends.
The Sand in My Snow Boots
Seriously. He apparently had never thrown a party until one time he did an Oscar party & it was a hit, so he made it an annual thing and it just keeps growing.
I think he's a nut, but a good kinda nut. Like a Brazil nut. They're my favorite.
