HUGE wedding drama (brother)

So my brother is having his reception at the art museum in milwaukee (the one from the American Idol Auditions)

They get a call last night: Their wedding coordinator has been fired, Why? SHE DOUBLE BOOKED THEIR WEDDING!

options: Keep same date and save $2000 or move it to the Friday before and save $18,000 plus they will pay for flight changes, invitation changes, and any fees for contract changes.

But really you double booked a freaking wedding, and JUST realized it 2 months before the wedding.

  • Ugh...what a nightmare!  What are they planning on doing?

  • Wow!  No wonder they were fired.  I would flip if that was me.  I don't know what I would do.  Changing it is a lot of money saved, but at the same time if I had picked that date for a reason, I would want to keep it.

  • My brother wants to do the fiscally responsible option of Friday. I think Nikki will say that's fine too, but for now she gets to be pissed, and irrational. It's her wedding that they invested a LOT of money in, and she had her vision ya know? Like we all did.

  • I would probably try to keep the same date.  There was probably a reason they picked that day, and there's no guarantee that all of the other vendors booked would be able to move to Friday.  The hassle of it just makes my head spin.

I don't envy their decision though.  And doesn't their options also depend on the other wedding booked?  Wouldn't only one of the two weddings get to keep the same date and the other would move to Friday?

  • My brother's wedding was booked first so they got the option to choose. I can't imagine this happening, especially with a place that is well respected.

  • Holy crap balls, and I thought having a double booked photographer was bad!

Personally, we picked the date we did because that's when the venue was available, not because it had any significance to us, and I'd assume that many do the same.

For us, the $18,000 would win out over a Saturday wedding, because that's a really significant amount of money.

Have they sent out invitations yet?  Is there a lot of family that has to travel?

  • Invitations have been printed, but not mailed (thankfully)  and there really aren't that many family members that are traveling.

18K is a lot of money, and I know Nikki doesn't really care about the date as long as their wedding is in April. They picked the last Saturday just for weather reasons.

  • OMG it's just like Bride Wars!

Seriously, that sucks major balls.  I'd probably switch dates but it's such a big job to reconfirm all vendors, etc. I'd be freaking out.

    Now jumping domestically.

Well that was a crazy couple of years.

  • I'd probably take a few days to be a bridezilla drama queen, but then change, as long as key members were able to take the day off for prep and such, and, I guess, assuming affected vendors and such could make the switch.

I might also think about chatting with the other couple to see if they would be royally fuucked over if they had to change.

  • I think I'd have to do the financially better switch to the Friday before. If she really didn't have her heart set on the date they picked, then it seems to make the most sense. Although, finding out if all the vendors could do that date as well is going to be such a PIA. I would totally go crazy bridezilla on the wedding coordinator.

  • Wow! What a nightmare!

I picked a Saturday only because I knew it would be easier on my OOT family. Given those two options, I'd probably save the $18K and changes dates, assuming that would work for my vendors and important family members, etc.

  • That is so frustrating. I hope they are able to do what's best for them without too much of a hassle.

  • I can't even imagine.
