I need a laptop...

What should I get?  I don't really need much, just something with your usual "Office" capabilities and the ability to go on the internet.  I've never used a Mac, so I guess I'm a "PC" person haha

Advice / Info please?

Re: I need a laptop...

  • I always get dells. I have never had a problem with them and thats what H always recommends to people that want  a PC laptop. He has a degree in IT so I usually listen to him when it comes to computers lol Stick out tongue

I was just about to say the exact opposite. Yes, they are generally cheaper, but if DH and I could go back 8 months we would never have bought our Dell. We would have rather bought a Mac with a smaller screen just to save us from all the problems we have had.

  • I've had many problems with Dells, but I think I have been particularly unlucky.  I have a mac now, but only because my work paid for it, they are WAY too expensive otherwise!  I love my macbook, but there are lots of PCs out there that have the same basic functions.  Though, as I am not a "PC person" anymore, I can't recommend a specific brand.  I know that my computer friends like IBM because they are simple and reliable.

  • I have a Dell, the 3rd one so far since '02. I had an old refurbished one from '01-'03 which was just too old and slow for me. I got an Inspiron in '03 I believe, and then just got my Pink Insprion one I have now in '09 (cost around $500-600). I have had no problems with any of my dells, and DH has probably had like 5-6 of them using for work at his business and personal, and no problems with his either.

    Good luck and happy shopping!

  • Unless they've changed in the last few years, Dell is an evil, evil company. I had the worst customer service experience of my life with them, to the point where the agent who helped me purchase the computer flat out LIED to me and then the company wouldn't make it right, and it ended up costing me hundreds of dollars.

Try googling it - you will see many many complaints about their customer service. The computers themselves are pretty good, you just have to pray that nothing goes wrong with them.

I have an HP now and it's okay. I think when it's time for a new one I'm going for a Mac.

  • wow you girls have some pretty strong opinions about Dell

I found this HP one - it's pretty basic.   And not a bad price....
