PW: MPS teacher sick out!

I'm headed to go protest this horrible bill! We had enough teachers call in today and they closed the district.

Also the senators opposing the bill left the state in protest of voting on the bill.

  • I saw that the senators came down to Illinois. Have fun protesting!
  • Good luck and be careful.

  • Good luck! Besides you, I know 2 other teachers in that district, I've been trying to get a hold of them to see they're thoughts on things. Crazy. Enjoy your extra long weekend.

  • Excellent!  Did you see Rachel Maddow last night?  She had this whole segment about what union busing means for the Democratic party.  And then she had one of the WI Senators on.  Good luck MO, stay safe, and keep us updated.

  • It's a crazy scene

Keep in mind: Firefighters and Police will be exempt from this bill.

  • Fill me in - what's the bill about?
  • It's like this:

    1. All public employees will now contribute 5% to our pension

    2. All public employees will not contribute 12% to insurace

    (yup that's a 17% pay cut)

    3. Unions will now ONLY be able to bargain for cost of living raises. For teachers this means: class size, prep time, length of school day etc...

There's more, but this is what the protesting is mostly about. The only public employees exempt from this are Police and Firefighters.

*Plus when his budget bill comes out he'll be cutting more than a billion dollars of education funds, and attempt to split up my state's universities.

  • MO, is there a right to recall the governor in WI like there is in IL?
