(well, yes, but...)
so i really wanted to run a 5K this spring. i had one in mind that i thought was in april (plenty of time!) but it turns out it is one month from today...
i can run for a total of 15 minutes right now before i need to stop and walk for awhile...aka i can run maybe 1.75 miles and then walk. do you think that if i "train" 3-4 times a week that i can run the entire race?
and if so, how do i "train?"
Re: am i crazy??
Yes, you can totally do it!
It sounds like you're past what Couch 2 5k could do for you, so I wouldn't recommend that. I would just keep doing what you're doing now, and try to press yourself to go a little further each day. It's also not the end of the world if you have to stop and walk a bit, just try to keep it to 60 seconds or under, or (at least I find) it's harder to get started again.
I can't really tell you if you're crazy, because I hate running with a fiery passion.
However, I know a lot of people that did the couch to 5K (C25K) program with amazing results. You can probably skip some of the first weeks because you are already able to run a bit.

You're my 5k sista! I'm doing my first 5 K on Mother's Day, woop woop.
I've never liked running because I suck at it. I started out doing the C25k but I was too advanced for it because I can run more than 60 seconds at a time. So, I've tweaked it to:
Walk 5 min.
Jog 2 min at speed 4.5
Jog 2 min at speed 4.7
Jog 2 min at speed 4.9
Jog 2 min at speed 5.1
Walk 2 min
Repeat
Note: these are the speeds on my treamill so I doubt they're accurate.
This might be an option for you. Either than or jump ahead to week 4, 6, or whatever level you can comfortably run.
If you're crazy, then I am too (along with Deb). I signed up for a 5k the day before Mother's Day - I should probably check & see how much longer I have (thus the reason why I have the ticker!) I'm so glad we have eachother right now, haha.
But I'm basically where you are, Shauni. The most I've run so far without stopping is 2.8 miles, but I've gotten myself up to running 2 miles on average then I need to take a walking break or I feel like death. Over the course of a month when I started, I've gone from not being able to run even a quarter of a mile, to the point where I am now. I am also not very fast, but I'm focusing on the endurance part for now. That could be an issue for reaching the 1.75 road block - if you're running TOO fast I could see why you'd burn out quick. Are you running at a comfortable pace? Maybe you could try slowing down a little bit and see if you're able to run past the 1.75. I know this was an issue for when I started running.
I another factor is just pushing yourself (but not too hard) progessively each session. There's nothing wrong with walking breaks, especially if you alternate from that 1.75 mile point up until whatever your goal is. While I'm running I also try & sort of trick myself into running farther - I'm only going to run a quarter more or 2 minutes more, then when I hit that point I tell myself only a quarter more, etc. Before I know it, it (almost) feels like my legs are on autopilot and the rest is mental.
I think overall it sounds like you're making great progress. How long ago did you start running? And how far could you run when you started? Think of how far you've come since then.
Wow I rambled. I hope this friggin' makes sense.
